Operation Backlog Completion 2024

Is it just me, or does the next month in the year always seem so far away until you’re right on top of it?

It was June when I saw this call for submissions and decided I wanted to write something for it. They’re looking for gothic horror? Gothic horror novellas, at that? How could I pass up an opportunity so good? Better yet, the deadline was September 15, and that was months away!

And other things came up, things that were more important, things with closer deadlines… and yesterday I looked at the calendar and realized that September 15 was no longer ages away, and the chances of me writing a novella anywhere decent before then are extremely slim.

But I never give up without a fight!

I’ve now launched my own miniature NaNoWriMo project… Unlike the main NaNoWriMo, where you have one month (November) to write a 50,000 word novel, this gives me 25 days to write and edit a 25,000 word novella! I’m aiming for at least 1500 words a day. That way, I should finish in plenty of time to edit like a lunatic. Here we go!

(Oh, and good news! I’ll be updating this blog regularly now. No, I really mean it this time. Really! My class requires it, so you can trust my word this time!)
