During March’s Xbox Partner Preview, Stranger Than Heaven received a new trailer and the promise of more information to come on May 6.
Now we’re two days away from that event.
Xbox Presents: A Special Look at Stranger Than Heaven will start on May 6 at 4 PM PT / 7 PM ET and last for 30 minutes.
According to the official post about it, it will feature “details and insights on the game’s story, world, characters and more,” including the structure of its 5-era/5-city storytelling.
My feelings toward Stranger Than Heaven have bounced around. When it was first announced, I was hyped. I couldn’t wait to see more. Then, with the Kiwami 3 controversies casting a shadow over RGG Studio, I lost some of my enthusiasm. On top of that, I was disappointed that we only got a trailer in that Xbox showcase, despite it being announced as an “in-depth look,” so that left me feeling a little more negative than usual.
But this sounds like the chance to really learn more about this game and what it’s like. I was originally hoping that it was entirely separate from the Yakuza universe (and perhaps even supernatural), but the glimpse of Kamurocho in the last trailer suggests otherwise. Still, I hope we get some intriguing story details in the upcoming deep dive. I want to see a story premise I can get excited for, like when Judgment was coming out.
The reference to the storytelling structure interests me, too. Maybe we won’t be playing through these eras in a linear fashion. Of all the gameplay details, that’s what has me the most curious now.
Meanwhile, there are rumors that a Stranger Than Heaven build has leaked, possibly for a gameplay demo. It’s unclear if the report is true or not, but beware of spoilers just in case.
What are you hoping to see from Stranger Than Heaven in the upcoming showcase?
