Operation Backlog Completion 2025
Jan 032018

It’s a new year, and that means a new year’s worth of attempts to make a dent in my video game backlog. Last year, I challenged myself to play at least 40 games in 2017.

I succeeded!

…and my remaining backlog is larger than it was a year ago. I blame Humble Bundle and several free game promotions.

Therefore, it’s time for Operation Backlog Completion: Round 3! I was tempted to raise the goal again, but 40 feels like a reasonable number. In 2018, I’ll complete 40 more games.

Operation Backlog Completion 2018

Last year, I also set two additional goals: I would play all of the games I had previously listed as my most-anticipated games of the year, as well as any games I backed on Kickstarter.

I did not get through all of these games on the list, but I will play them in 2018! (Along with my most-anticipated games of 2018, assuming they aren’t delayed, and additional Kickstarter games that came out last year.)

So, in 2018, I will play:

  • Cosmic Star Heroine
  • Batman: Arkham Knight (and possibly Arkham Origins)
  • The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (after playing The Witcher 2)
  • Vampyr
  • Dragon Quest XI
  • The Wolf Among Us: Season 2
  • Project Octopath Traveler
  • Kingdom Hearts III
  • Yooka-Laylee
  • Aviary Attorney
  • Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odan
  • Dies Irae
  • Shadows of Adam
  • A Hat in Time

These are my gaming goals for 2018. What are yours?

  1. Well done! That is good progress. It’s almost a good thing Humble Bundle seems to be getting worse value for money these days for that reason. xD

My gaming goal is similar to yours, it’s just less organized. I wish to get through as much backlog as possible. Definitely I want to clear all the new games I got over Christmas. Two down already, so it’s a good start.

  2. WHERE IS COLOR SPLASH?

  3. Have you played mario legend of the seven stars ? I just started it today and well i knew alot of ppl regared it as a masterpiece, as their favourite and so on ,but the first hr was well pretty good i went in hoping for a good jrpg, well so far it was very good, but then again i have just play a hr perhaps a hr and half.

Also finished return to castle wolfenstein 🙂

Have you played Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga?

    • Yes, and I enjoyed it. I didn’t adore it quite as much as a lot of people do, but I found it pretty entertaining and an enjoyable game.

I love Superstar Saga! Bowser’s Inside Story is my favorite in the series, but Superstar Saga is great too.

      • Hmm any reasons for that? So far i have liked it alot, i also like that Mario uses hit body to explain the events instead of just being mute.

Hmm i see, seems that superstar saga is considered a little bit better ,but yeah i will most likely try both. Inside story is getting a remaster next year.

        • I think it’s probably just a case where I went in with exaggerated expectations because of how much people love it.

Oh, is it? I thought most people felt Bowser’s Inside Story was the best in the series. They’re probably the top two for most fans, Superstar Saga and Bowser’s Inside Story.

          • I see that makes sense, i have tried to ignore to hype beside that i know some or alot of ppl both considered itt a masterpiece or even they favourite still i tried going it with excepation that it being just good , and so far is been very good.

Well i dont know i have only checked two polls one of them superstar saga one with 17 votes the other inside story one with 3 votes ( checked that other now) according to roosterteeth list superstar saga is over it but twinfinite has opposite. But yeah perhaps is closer too even, i dont know, i mean i havent researched that much beside those polls best mario rpg list, were it seems that two are the best for the 3ds, but that paper mario ttyd and super mario rpg legend of seven star also being considered perhaps away at legend of seven star seems to be considred the best one , but i dont know.

            • Ah, gotcha.

Hmm, well from what I’ve seen, some people consider Super Mario RPG to be the best Mario RPG of all, Thousand-Year Door is usually considered to be the best Paper Mario game, and Superstar Saga/Bowser’s Inside Story are the most common favorites for the Mario & Luigi series.

              • Yeah that seems to be right. To bad Paper Mario Thousand Year door has to be emulated, one of ten or so games that i want to either gets ports/remasteres or remakes.

Has your top 20 games changed since last year, i mean to recall you made one last year?

Have you played super metroid or chrono trigger? I am thinking about buying both, but my best bet for chrono trigger is on steam, i know i can play or continue playing it on my ds emulator, but i really wonder if i would be better of getting it on steam or something.

                • It would be nice if they ported it. Since GC games haven’t been on the virtual console, it’s probably the Paper Mario game hardest to come by nowadays.

Oh boy, I’m not sure. XD Coming up with a top 20 games is tough, since there’s so many games I like for different reasons.

I played Chrono Trigger on the DS and enjoyed it. The Steam version had a LOT of issues when it first came out, but after the latest update, I think it’s more or less straightened out now.

                  • Yeah i guess thats indead true, to bad tough.

I see. i just recall you had a list, perhaps it was your 20 favourite game series or something? Or i am i mistaken, it was a list with hatoful boyfriend, portal etci think

Hmm i see, i mean i only have it on my ds emulator witch works allright i just think or have a feeling i might enjoy it even more on steam or something especially if they have fixed almost everything

                    • Yeah, I think I tried to come up with top 20, or 20 games everyone should play. XD It’s always tough, though, when you try to compare really different games to one another.

I believe the Steam version uses the DS version’s translation, too.

                    • I see yeah that makes sense. Yeah i agree making a top 20 or 30 is pretty tough, thats why i kind of prefer top 20-30 etc list in random order ,since how can you really compare a game directly with one another from a different genre.

I see, thats good then, thx

    • Yeah, it’s tough when games are completely different.

  4. Are you getting spdierman 2018 ? Or dq xi? If spiderman gets good review i will get that and dq xi for bday gifts. Also just bough SMT IV and overcloocked on the 3ds + ultra sun and smt strange journey redux witch i will get on bday.

Still before i start on the console games i will try to finish of both shenume 1 and 2 and yakuza kiwami 2 ( witch probably is the game i was looking most forward to this year). Just think i should finish shenume 1 and 2 before jumping on yakuza 2 so i can play that in quiet can you say that and not hurry myself trough it to play shenmue . I dunno i decided to pick shenume 1 and 2 first anyway or play them first.

Also playing superstar saga, dk country returns, phoenix wright 2 ,link between worlds on the 3ds.

    • might also get tomb raider in 2 weeks time if it gets good reviews.

    • I’m definitely getting DQXI. I’m going to order it and Yakuza Kiwami 2 soon. I’m not a big enough Spider-Man fan to get that at launch.

      How are you enjoying Shenmue?

      • Hmm so you are getting spider man eventually? I mean i am not to much fant of these super heroes , but spider man with dq xi is probably getting for bday gifts. Also spider-man and batman is probably the super heroes i am most fond of or think is most all right, well also like x-men, but yeah i might get it next week since i have bday next week and can get it as a gift from parents, if spider-man get decent reviews witch i think it will.

Also thinking about buying 428: Shibuya Scramble and Zone of the enders 2 on the ps4. Zone of the enders first review is a 100/100 and shibuya has 3 reviews of 10 if i recall right. one on 9.3 and one at a+, how ever two of them is at least youtubers if not three.

Shenmue well i enjoyed it, i mean it took me some time to really like it. It starts a bit slow , but the more i played the more i liked the setting , the story , the characters, the town , the atmosphere.
I have had to use a guide because i couldnt figure out how to understand what store was what. Walking around the city and seeing most stores with only japanse signs , some with english. I learned later that you could zoom in on signs , by a mistake or so that it translate them to english i also learned that you could interact with the sign map in the town with l2 and x , took me very long. So yeah i while i like the game alot, i still have to admit i have to use guess, because while you have a book telling your about you objective it is sometiems so vague ( thats how its called) , that you will run around alot. I managed to almost to the first part of the whole walktrough without a walktrough if that makes sense until i got the part i had to talk too some specific ppl in some specific stores or something. Either way i enjoy the game. And will most likely play 2 afterward then yakuza 2.

I like that most characters has something different to say ,different names, that stores close and opens, that you have to wait for the bus, etc , good game even tough the combat is pretty bad, a bad yakuza in combat.
Enjoy it alot , learning you way trough the city and places, that you have your own home, that the main character knows alot of the characters there and you have to just go along with it, if that makes sense. The music is also ok.

So you have played yakuza 0 and kiwami?

        • Well, Spider-Man seems to be getting great reviews, so I’ll consider it. I’m not a big superhero fan, but I did love the Batman Arkham games, so I might try this one eventually if people say it’s really great.

I’m interested in 428: Shibuya Scramble, too. I forgot itw as coming out soon, actually!

Yeah, the Shenmue games seem kind of unusual in that regard, that you’ll spend a lot of time… wandering? XD I feel like it’s an attempt to make it feel more realistic.

I haven’t finished Yakuza 0 yet, and I have Kiwami. Maybe I shouldn’t order Kiwami 2 until I’m ready for it, but I’m tempted to anyway since I’m enjoying 0 so much, haha.

          • I see. Yeah the arkham games was great espeicially the two first.

Yeah i friend reminded me of it, that it came out. Only found it on a decent price on one store, so decided to buy it. I have seen around 6 10, 1 a+ witch probably is the same as 10, and two 8. Still there is only two major review sites if we go my meta who has reviewd it.

Yeah ,but i kind of think it works, at least in shenmue since the location arent that big, but yeah indead.

Well i hear yakuza 2 is arguably considered the best with 0 and 5 usually the one who is closest behind. I have yet to start it, but it is probably the game sorry if i repeat that i looked most forward to this year.
            Anyway i can see that

            • I still need to play Arkham Origins and Arkham Knight, actually.

428: Shibuya Scramble seems pretty niche.

Yeah, it seems like people already really liked the story in the original Yakuza 2, and now Kiwami 2 is being described as possibly the best in the series so far.

              • I see. Same here with origins, had in on ps3, but never got the chance to really start. Knight is decent enough.

Yeah i guess it indead is, isnt most visuel novell that?

Yeah i think you right, i mean that what i seems to figure that 2 has the best story and genereally considered the best game with 0 and 5 following, both best in the series and regarding story. But, yeah you mean 2 being the best due to what some of the reviews says or the users?

                • I had Arkham Knight on the PC, and there were all sorts of issues with it at launch, so I was waiting for them to fix it before I played and then just never got back to it.

                  True, yeah.

Users, mainly. I’ve seen a lot of players say it’s the best.

  5. So i heard. To bad tough.

I see you mean best in best yakuza game. I seen one reviewer tough saying it is among the best game ever, but yeah well that is widely subjetive.

  6. Yeah, i hope that will be good. It probably will be, but damn the hype for that game among most gamers has to be huge. I will also give tales of vasperia a shot too. Since we are talking about January, ace combat 7 is probably the game i am looking most forward to next year. How is xenoblade?

    Are you getting dq xi?

  7. I see, i have watched the not extended one, if i got it right the last trailer also got an extended version.

Nice i see. You mean the combat in the expansion is a bit different from that in the main game? Sound nice

I see. Have you played any previous dq games?

    • Yes, and the new trailer has a ton of interesting scenes.

In Xenoblade Chronicles 2, you control one of the party members and use abilities depending on which Blade you have active, but in Torna, you can switch between control of the human character or the Blade, while the one you’re not using acts as support. There are some other differences, too.

I’ve played the very first Dragon Quest and part of the third.

      • Thats cool.

That seems nice. Good that they add some differences then.

I see 🙂 They both are pretty old school arent they? 🙂

        • Yeah, it’s interesting. Now I hope they announce a Xenoblade Chronicles X sequel eventually.

Definitely very old school. I played 3 ages ago, though. I had the Game Boy Color version and never finished it.

  8. I see, yeah well i have yet to finish xenoblade chronicles x, perhaps i should. How much would you have paid for an original copy of xenoblade chronicles on wii? Even if it perhaps is a old copy ? I found a copy well i hope they still got it for around 34 pound or however you spell it. Or should i just download it digitally on the wii-u 🙂

Hmm i see. Yeah well i guess i will stick to xi or perhaps try to find ix too if i end up enoying xi. I mean i tried vii and vii compared to viii seemed indead pretty old scholl.

Also i see that you spend over 100 hr on yakuza 0 , you enjoyed it that much? Excellent game. While i didnt spent close to the amound of hrs you spent i see myself returing for a hard mode or just doing side stuff eventually. Kiwami 2 is excellent and i found bot 0 and kiwami 1 to be arguably better then the average critic score or close to the user score if that makes sense , even tough i am not that fan of scores.

Either way i got 428 shibuyu scramble arriving today, Planning to start it pretty soon, probably at least by the weekend. Will probably finish kiwami 2 first or play both.

Have you played castlevania symphonia of the night? Reason i ask is due to the port? Will be a good time for me to most likely re-buy it and try to finish it a second time.

    • I did buy an original copy of Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii, although I got it at launch back when it was still relatively easy to find. It’s a fantastic game, so the price sounds fine to me, but the digital download would also be good. It’s just a great game either way!

I’ve heard Dragon Quest IX is a lot different from the rest of the series.

Yeah, I spent a lot of time doing the side content in Yakuza 0 in addition to the story. Completed both the real estate and the cabaret club, did the majority of substories, etc.

      Nice!

I haven’t played Symphony of the Night, although I had a demo for it that I tried a few times on the Xbox 360. I saw the port announcement, so maybe I’ll get it.

      • Yeah i see. I am just more for a physcial usually but, i think around half the price digitally however it also then takes up far more space, and having the disc version also seems like a bit cool since it such a good game among many.

Hmm i see. I havent hear that, but that could be true. I heard more that it still feels kind of home if you like dragon quest you know what you getting yourself into thing.

Nice, so you are pretty close to 100% on the completion list? Well i might have to go back to it, both to finish real estate and cabaret club. Finished the cabaret club on yakuza 2 an that was excellent. I love these kind of gaes like one day you might decide to just do the main story, the other day side quest or mini games and some day you just do what is naturally for you , a bit like skyrim or something.

Yeah i hope i will enjoy it. Before this year i had finished 3 VN now i finished 6 VN with 5 or so VN on my backlog. To bad 428 shibuyu seems to be a pretty damn niche game ,but yeah well i will enjoy that in the weekend.

When i am done with that i have around a month before castlevenia witch again i most likely will get, were i might start dq xi, planescape torment enhanced edition ( might even play some of it this weekend) , there also alot of 3ds games i try to play like dk returns, superstar saga, smt strange joruney, ultra sun. I had to return smt iv and overclocked tough.
Are you going to get for ex rdr 2?

I see. So you didnt try the demo? Well the game was excellent, played it for 8-12 hrs, very good imo. Wanted to write pure gold, but yeah, excellent game that when i played it in 2015 or so hold up pretty damn well.

        • Yeah, that makes sense.

I think the main difference is creating your own characters instead of having fixed characters like in a lot of DQ games.

I’m not quite near 100% on the completion list. I think maybe in the 70s or so, mainly due to mini-games I’ve ignored. XD I did all but a handful of substories, though. To me it doesn’t feel like something like Skyrim, but more like old JRPGs. I don’t really enjoy the “go anywhere, do anything” style of gameplay, but I enjoy games like this where I have side content I can do before progressing the main story.

I’m hoping to play a few horror games once we get into October.

RDR 2 meaning Red Dead Redemption? I’m not really interested in it.

I did play the demo, more than once in fact. XD I just never got the full game for some reason.

  9. You mean fixed characters in dq xi? that sounds weird, i am pretty sure you got a fixed party.

I see 70 percent is still pretty good, i have like 17,65% or something. Nice. I found most of the substories to be pretty good. That includes those in 1 and 2 too. Hmm i see, when you say skyrim i take you mean also fallout? witcher 3? You mean you find yakuza better since is a smaller town or that you are a free to do stuff beside the story? Since compared to skyrim you only got one type of gameplay style? Anyway since we are talking about this how much did you enjoy 0? Alot? While i finished it this year i probably have it among my top 5 games i have finished this year with 2, probably hit top 10 or 20 overall too, the game is excelletn and i really wish the got more attention , or better scores even tough i guess scores really doesnt matter that much, either way i found 0 a masterpiece what a game.

Nice. Like? Since you mention horror games ever playe eternal darkness?

Yeah red dead redemption. I see , i guess they are a little in the same place like skyrim then? I will probably try it down the line, but probably not at launch. Something about rockstar games that just make me think yeah i get why ppl love them and so on ,but i just found them ok, like i did the main story in gta v and rdr and found them great, i can see why ppl say they are a masterpiece, but they just dont click well with me. GTA v online with friends is all right tough espcially if you do something.

I see. So you enjoyed it then. But, yeah perhaps the time is this year then?

    • I was talking about DQ IX, not XI. IX has you create your own characters for your party.

Yeah, I enjoyed the substories a lot.
I’m not a big fan of open world games. It takes a lot for an open world game to catch my interest enough for me to play it. XD I like the smaller style much better.

Eternal Darkness is great! That’s one of the games I wish they’d port or make a sequel to. I don’t really have faith in the spiritual successor Shadow of the Eternals to ever come to be.

      • oh i see , my bad, fair enough.

I see. Is there any open world game you like then?

Nice, perhaps i should emulate it then. I barely heard of the spirutal successor, but yeah i can see that.

        • I enjoyed Xenoblade Chronicles X a lot! I also plan to play Witcher 3 eventually, so hopefully I’ll enjoy that too.

I was lucky enough to find a copy of Eternal Darkness for a reasonable price a few years ago and played it. I’d love to see what a remaster or sequel could do with some of the gameplay mechanics.

          • All right i see. What ever you do regarding witcher 3 buy the goty edition. And while not necessary you should look up a summary of 1 and 2.

I see. Nice. I take it that it has some unique gameplay mechanics? Hows it regarding your favourite (survival) horror games?

            • I actually have Witcher 3 already, and the only reason I haven’t played it yet is because I haven’t gotten to 2 yet. XD I played 1 already.

Eternal Darkness is very different than traditional survival horror games in a lot of ways. It basically has a hub area with many semi-linear levels, there’s a strong emphasis on using magic, and it has more action than usual. So I find it difficult to compare it to other survival horror games… but on the other hand, I consider it to be one of the best Lovecraftian games out there. It’s structured in such a way that it feels like a collection of short horror stories linked with an overarching narrative, and it does a great job of capturing the tone of Lovecraft’s horror.

              • I wait, perhaps we have talked about that but yeah i see. Witcher 2 is apperantly petty good even tough i have yet to play it myself.

Hmm i see. Seems cool that with hub and levels and that you have to use magic. Nice. Is cool when a game kind of has a short stories. Yeah well i need to really try to emulate that game eventually.

  10. Nice

Yeah we can hope, cant be that hard to make a port of it. Also hope paper mario the thousand year door also get a port

  11. Anyway i finished off to the moon today.

  12. Anyway we like what we like doesnt really matter. I guess its also alot about different reviewers etc, one reviewer on ign could give the game a 10 and other a 8 or something, still sometimes you persoanlly might play a game that you think is a 9 or still a masterpiece ,and still prefer it over a game that you gave 10 too. Different genres , different strokes etc , either way whatever, we like what we like. I have around 5 hrs left on Shibuya i think, perhaps 10-15 more if i go for all the endings etc.

    • I think it’s possible for there to be a reviewer who is biased against indie games or biased in favor of high profile games, who then gives it a skewed score accordingly. (It even happens based on genre. Every now and then a JRPG gets a low score, and when you read the review, all the criticisms are against the genre.)

How did you enjoy To the Moon?

      • Yeah and thats to bad really. Shouldnt matter if is indies, or what genre it is. I mean while metacritic is bad is there really a VN on 90 or above? With genre you mean in general or just indie genres? Yeah i am not suprised. I have read probably some review that just doesnt read like that score it gets. I dont really think is good if the reviewer hates or dislikes the genre. But yeah, too bad either way. Still i guess that why you shall take meta, gamerankings, opencritic with a grin of salt. Perhaps as a indicator, or take the average between user and critic and if the game is above 8.0 or 8.5 is could very well by some be considered a masterpiece. There is also gamefaq, hltb to etc. But, yeah when all is criticism toward the genre that is bad. Either way is not a fact no matter how you look at it

I found to the moon pretty good. Liked the music. The characters was good enough. The story/plot was also pretty good. I also have to give it a credit of being quite sad.

What is your favourite visual novel, jrpgs then? To bad both genre really is niche tough

        • About genre, I mean in general. You’ll always have some reviewers who are just biased. And when it’s a niche genre (like visual novels), it’s going to be even more noticeable. For visual novels, it might be better to look at VNDB rankings.

I remember reading a review of Alien Isolation, and while the reviewer didn’t enjoy it a lot, the criticism were actually positive things to me. XD So even though the review wasn’t “good,” reading it confirmed that I’d probably enjoy it.

I really liked To the Moon. If you enjoyed it, don’t forget that the sequel is out now! (Plus the two free mini-episodes. If you haven’t played those, you should.)

Favorite JRPG is still Tales of Symphonia, favorite visual novel is probably a tie between the Ace Attorney series overall and Steins;Gate.

  13. Hmm, yeah i guess, still seems a little bad that tough. Especially with niche genres. I might do that

    Hmm thats cool. I see.

Ah yeah thats right, yeah i will keep that in mine with the sequels and the mini episodes.

Nice, not that many i hear having tales as their fav jrpg. I really need to try ace attorney 3 and steins gate. Steins gate is lucikly getting a ps4 release. 2 of a couple of other vn i want to play.

    • Yeah.

The two mini-episodes should be somewhere in your Steam folder if you have it through Steam, but you have to start them manually from the .exe files in the folder. Then there’s A Bird Story, which is a dialogue-free short game set in between the two, and then Finding Paradise which is the major sequel.

I just really love Tales of Symphonia, haha.
I’m conflicted about Steins;Gate Elite. On one hand, more people get to play Steins;Gate. On the other hand, I’m not convinced the animated style is good.

  14. Yeah i see. I vaguely remeber to see two episode beneath the game. Heard about both, however didnt remeber that they were sequel , just taught the were maade by the same developer. Might have heard it, but if i have, i have forgotten that. Anyway so both of those should be played then?

Any idea why? The gameplay? The characters? The story/plot? The atmosphere ? Music? All of those?

Hmm i see. So the anime style is different?

    • A Bird Story is enjoyable, but not necessary. Finding Paradise, however, is very good and the next full game following Neil and Eva, so if you enjoyed To the Moon, you’ll most likely enjoy Finding Paradise as well.

Tales of Symphonia is my favorite for its characters and story. I also appreciated the gameplay, but really the characters and story put it over the top for me.

What I mean is that instead of the normal visual novel style Steins;Gate used, Steins;Gate Elite is actually animated.

  15. Hmm i see thats cool. Thanks for the recommendation , if i find it for a decent price, well it kind of is allready ,but yeah i will add it to the wish list. It also reminds have you played her story? Or that dragon cancer?

I see makes sense. Yeah i remember back when my football team/ friends played against a other team and laughted at a guy name Lloyd on the oppsite team and i actually well had nothing against simply because of tales of symphonia where Lloyd was a badass. One of the jrpg back in the day if we excl fire emblem and pokemon i really liked. And yeah the story was also good.

Yeah i see. I heard something like that, that it uses cutescenes from the anime?

Btw i read something today, i mean is not sure is a fact, but i heard the remark once before or so that reviewer today is well lets say its a little like first come, first served thing, faster you are the more readers and comments and click you side will get, thus you can argue reviewers get a bit hurried and thus affecting some games. Since the wont be able to see all the eindgs, side quests etc. But, i dont know what you thinj about that?

    • I haven’t played either of those yet, although I want to check out Her Story eventually.

      Haha, I see.

Yeah, from what I understand, Steins;Gate Elite uses the scenes from the anime along with new scenes they made for the parts the anime didn’t cover.

I think it’s almost guaranteed there’s some of that. When I do reviews as a freelance writer, I avoid most long games (even though they’re usually my favorites) because I know I can’t finish and review a long game by the deadline without rushing. So I wouldn’t be surprised at all if there are reviewers who rush to be ready when the embargo lifts.

  16. I can see that.

Really liked, i mean i think is better to say one of the few jrpg i really played back then.

that can be nice if done right i guess. But we will see.

Yeah , thats really to bad tough since the score will most likely be affected in a negative way due to that i assume.

  17. I see. Well read the review. I skipped Moon and Sun and got Ultra Sun directly, i find it pretty enjoyable, but then again i have never played these game for its story nor it character, but more about getting the different pokemon, evolving them and so on.

Do you got two Lunala then ?

Also if i get it right Lusamine is far more good in the anime.

Btw you talk about the looker quest it isnt in the ultra sun? And also do you get something for finishing it in Y?

Still you say that sun/moon story is or you have hard is better then ultra sun?

    • I’ll play Ultra Sun eventually. Ultra Sun features the other legendary Pokemon, not Lunala, doesn’t it? I think that was my logic for getting it over Ultra Moon, at least. XD

Yeah, as far as I know, the post-game Looker quest isn’t in Ultra Sun/Moon. I think there was a reward, but I don’t remember what. XD

People seem to say Ultra Sun/Moon has a weaker story than Sun/Moon, especially when it comes to Lusamine.

      • Yeah it does, it features Solgaleo. I will say i actully like both Solgaleo and Lunala.

        I see.

        Hmm, all right.

But, do you got two Lunala or a Celesteela or a Pheromosa that you can trade? As you can mange to get two Lunala on moon, and atleast 4 Pheromosa. Or rather you get one Lunala and one Cosmog that can evolve to Lunala so possible to have two for moon and two for Solgaleo. Also seems you can 4 Celesteela. Reason i ask is these are exclsuive even tough i guess it wouldnt be impossible to find someone on gts willing to trade them for the other exclusive on ultra sun.

Btw after 4-5 Froakie trades on gts i finally got a protean Froakie 🙂

        • however if you dont usually trade or dont want to. Thats fine too:)

        • I just ended with so little enthusiasm for Pokemon Moon that I did even less work toward completing my Pokedex than usual. XD Were Pheromosa and Celesteela those ones from the Looker quest? Then yeah, I should have extras of those to trade.

  18. Hmm i see. It was that bad for you? Well then again i guess i can get it if it is due to the story or plot? Or didnt you even like the noew pokemons? Still i find ultra sun to be quite good, i mean i have fun with it, alot of really. Then again i didnt play these games for is characters or plot for that matter.

Still i guess taking the break after barely playing 4th gen and not playing 5th gen or heart gold also helped.

Either way while i liked y , i wasnt to fond of it for some reason i dont know.

Ah well opionions . Still i like that there is so many pokemon to catch tough.

Anyway, yeah i tryed to check with looker quest for moon and yeah it seems indead so that its the one with Pheromosa and Celesteela. What about Lunala ,you got two?
Wouldnt say no to a trade.

I will admit i actually find the trials pretty cool

    • I linked my review, right? It was mainly the pacing and linearity/simplicity of the adventure that annoyed me, while I liked the plot in general.

XD The ones you skipped are my favorites!

I think I only have one Lunala, since I never played much in the post-game. xD
How does trading work in Sun/Moon? It uses the Festival Plaza in some way, I know that.

I liked the idea of the trials.

      • Yeah you did, sry, yeah i read it. But ,yeah my bad, sorry. Yeah you said that about the pacing. But, the thing was so the pacing, simplicity etc was what made you not have that much enthusisasm of it then, well i can get that. I read the review without really thinking about that the pacing and so on was the whole reason for less enthusisasm

I see, i really wanted to give black or white and their sequel a shot same with heart gold or soul silver.

I see. Well there is possible to get two. You can get a Cosmog at https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Lake_of_the_Moone witch evolve into another Lunala if got moon/ultra moon or Solgaleo if you got sun/ultra sun.

Btwalso include Stakataka , there is 3 ultra beast exclusive for those games

Yeah it uses festival plaza. I think the easier way to make sure we trade with each other is to trade friend codes.

Follow the second answer here https://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/291719/how-do-i-trade-with-friends-over-the-internet-in-pokemon-sun-moon

However i dont have much pokemons to offer right now. And if we do this what time? Or rather do you have steam , messenger we can use? We can remove each other from there if you want after the trade if we do.

        • Right, about the pacing, the main thing is how they’d stop you for dialogue at almost every new location. I felt like there were constant interruptions.

HeartGold/SoulSilver is what got me back into Pokemon after leaving the series for a while. Black/White have my favorite stories of the series, and I thought the sequels were good as well.

Hmm, maybe using Steam or Discord to set up the time would be best.

          • Yeah i can see that.

Makes sense your favourite gen then? Both regarding games and pokemons? Heard also black and white are among the harder once. But yeah i see, omega ruby and y was the thing that got me back to the series. Even tough i recall watching some few anime clips on YT before that, and after diamond and pearl.

I have discord but barely uses it, so i kind of prefer steam. Steam user https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198029093963/

            • I’ll always be nostalgic for the second gen, since that’s where I started the series, but HGSS were such good remakes I’d say that’s replaced them, in a way.

Okay, I just sent you a friend request.

              • I see. Makes sense.

I argue the second gen games was the best due to having both Johto and Kanto , but when it comes to pokemon i dont know i kinda of like all the first 3 gen, but i dont fine the last one to be that bad either , i like the guardians etc.

                Nice, i accepted it : )

  19. Also do you rather we talk here generally if its still ok or steam?

    • I liked the fourth gen a lot, too. Well, I only played Platinum, but I liked it. I wish Sun/Moon’s Ultra Space was more like the Distortion World.

As for talking here vs Steam, whichever you prefer is fine by me.

  20. Hmm, yeah i heard platinum was quite good. But, yeah i can see that.

Thats a hard question actually. I am usually logged onto steam all day so it kind of works, but at the same time i get the feeling if we use it , it might alot of small posts back on forth. Well i will think about it. But we should defintly use it regarding pokemon trading.

When we talk about steam you wouldnt have civ 5?

  21. Anyway what do you want for Celesteela, Pheromosa and Stakataka?

    Getting rdr2?

    • It looks like Stakataka was only introduced in the Ultra games, so I don’t actually have one of those. but for the other two, let me see, it looks like the Sun-exclusive ones are Buzzwole and Kartana. Do you have extras of them?

I wasn’t really interested in RDR2, although it’s getting fantastic reviews.

      • Yeah i forgot. Your right.

No, not yet, but i can. I will tell you when i get some extra copies of them, do you care about right nature, because i could probably catch them with a good nature.

Yeah it has. Even tough the user score is weird. I mean, i was thinking about getting it if it got 90 +, but eh i will probably wait, i heard some ppl comment that they had read alot of review who praised alot of the stuff like gamepaly elements, story, themes, details, setting , characters and so on but found the aiming to be a bit bad, the cover system to be bad and that it wasnt fun to play and these were from high reviews.
But , yeah i dont know i mean i get why ppl or some or alot like gta v, san andras, rdr 1 and considered it a masterpiece or some of the best games ever , even tough saying what is the best game ever is really impossible, i get it, i might even agree in some extent with it as i dont think a game need to be a 10 to be considered a masterpiece, dont agree with ratings tough.
Sry off topic, but eh i kind had to get it out, i will probably give it a shot eventually ,but the thing is when i was done with rdr 1story and gta v i was kind of finished i, did a feq side quest in rdr. And even tough i started a second run on rdr 1 two year ago or so i was kind of done half way trough even tough i liked the atmosphere etc.
Its getting fantastic reviews or at least critics that is, still you have to wonder why both xbox 1 and ps4 on meta has less then 8 on user score on average.

        • I don’t really care about the natures too much.

Well, it’s always subjective. XD A 10/10 game for one person could be in a genre that another person doesn’t enjoy at all. For me, in this case, I’m not a big fan of open world games, so an open world game that gets huge amounts of praise from open world fans isn’t going to be enough to convince me unless I see enough compelling things that interest me personally.

  22. Hmm i see.

    Yeah fair enough that.

  23. About getting rdr2?

  24. Btw is it only me who fell that goty awards and so on is just stupid?

  25. Ah well you asked me to try to a leave a comment so i will do just that.

What have you been playing or watching for that matter lately?

Any game that you lok forward next year? I mean January at least seems to be full of potenially great titles, 6 or so games that seems intersting for me.

Me i have mostly been playing fifa 16 for some reason. I am just in a football mood. Try to play other games but, it just wont happen. Well kind of . I have been playing some witness from time to time. And there is like a week or so since a played rdr 2, witch is actually excellent btw.

Anyway i have been watching a lot of the americans lately. A excellent show. Bought the complete series some months ago. Just started the last season. I had watched season 1-2 before buying the comple boxset witch was by far cheaper then invidual season here in norway at least. Season 4-5 i watched within a week , season 3 within 2 weeks. Love the tone, the music, the time period, the setting, the themes, and that things that happen in earlies season kind of dont go away they still get referenced from time to time or you think wait that happend in season 1 and so on. Great show started season 6 now and the intro of the first episode is top notch.

Also been watching some Cowboy bebop, on episode 21, so 6 left. Great show, really get why alot of ppl think it is one of the greats. Episode 2 and 5 is probably my favourite so far ,even tough episode 20 and 17 also was excellent. Probably some other episodes to.

Anyway when i am done watching those i will probably start watching avatar the last airbender ,and perhaps also try finish death note and fullmetal alchemist brotherhood that for some reason i just got busy with something else, still both of those series is very good. And since i have a long holiday well there is a chance i might actually be able to watch some series. Beside those i think i will try to finish buffy season 4-8 and friday night light in 2019 or so. Also thinking about starting attack on titan season 1, archer season 2 ( if i like season 2 i will probably buy season 3-7 or even 8 in multiple orderes so i wont get tax. Same with watching Haikyu.

Kind of waiting for a price drop regarding one punch man, my hero academia, westworld season 2 and jojo bizarre adventure or even great teacer onizuka. Alot of series i want to watch. Perhaps attack on titan and archer, so i can decide wether i buy the later seasons or not, only way i can get season 3-8 from archer in a decent price is from us witch means 4-6 weeks wait time or, perhaps 3 weeks if i am lucky. Thus there is a chance for those.Archer isnt that long so that is really a chance.

With that in mind me and my mom watch supernatural season 13 and when that is done we are either going to watch season 3 of the wire, stream supernatural season 14 ( most likely we will wait for the blu ray release tough), or perhaps rewatching 24 season 1-5 , season 1 is the only season from 24 i have only watched once. I have watched season 2 and 9 twice i think ,perhaps 3 but i doubt it. All the other season at least 3 times.

    Sorry for the long post.

Lastly i will get code geass sometime early next year.

Either way if this is even a plan it will probably go well bad.

    • Wow, this is a long comment. XD

I’ve been playing God of War and Virtue’s Last Reward the most, along with a little bit of Final Fantasy XIV.

I’m looking forward to a lot of games next year! Kingdom Hearts 3, Judgment, Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition, the Onimusha remaster, and then there’s a bunch that don’t have dates or any footage yet, like Luigi’s Mansion 3.

I haven’t really watched too much except The Curse of Oak Island, and I finally caught up on Atop the 4th Wall, if that counts. I’m thinking I might start watching more anime soon.

  26. Yeah it was. Had alot of stuff i wanted to say or write. Well sorry about that.

What do you think about both of those.Virtue last reward is one of my favourite virutel novells and might hit my top 30 i guess, great game. Excellent stuff. Like the characters , the story and so on is great.
God of war is great. Should perhaps try to play ng+ but, eh i dont know i really felt that when i was done i was done. But then again it was well just hard enough , great side bosses and so on. Still we will see, i mean i have finished tlou 4 times.

FF xiv is actually from what i have played pretty good.

Nice. Same here with kh 3, judgment ( when you mention it), tales of vesperia, onimusha too. Also mario& luigi bowser inside story. But the game i probably look most forward to is arguably ace combat 7 or more yakuza porta. Also resident evi 2 remake is something i look forward too. Metro exodus too if it gets good score . Ace attorney triology depending on what the do on the port. Steins gate, especially since my ps3 broke. Sekiro perhaps. Catherin remaster ( had the original ,but didnt have the chance to play it. Code vein to. Psychonauts 2.Bloodstained perhaps too. Need to try the luigi mansion games on the 3ds hero. But nice.

    I see. This series? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1868207/

Sry for the long post tough.

    • Haha, no problem.

I’ve been struggling to stick with Virtue’s Last Reward more than 999. I really enjoyed 999, but for some reason VLR just isn’t clicking with me the same way. Some interesting things have happened, though, so maybe I’ll get more into it soon.

I’m enjoying God of War a lot, hoping to finish it by the end of the year.

Oh, I forgot about the Resident Evil 2 remake! Yeah, I’m looking forward to that one, too, and Psychonauts 2 (which I’m cautiously optimistic about).

Yeah, it’s a web series where he reviews comic books.

No problem, long posts are fine. 😛

  27. Hmm i see. It was the opposite for me.

Nice. So do you have a fav game from this year then?

I see. Really liked re 1 remake and also played trough re 2 once, good game even tough it really needs that remake. Need to finish psychonauts 1 first tough. Any reason you are extra caution?

Hmm i guess that is cool enough,

    finished fullmetal alchemist brotherhood yesterday

    • I’ll be working out my blog post soon where I talk about my favorite games I played this year. Right now I think it’ll be Yakuza 0. (God of War could be a contender, but I haven’t finished it yet!)

I loved Psychonauts and that led me to play lots of other games from Double Fine, but the second half of Broken Age was such a disappointment for me it kind of soured my view of the company. I liked Costume Quest 2, though, so that restored my faith a bit.

I’ve never watched that. How was it?

      • Wow You like Yakuza 0 that much. Nice. I see. Well i will take a look at the list then.

Hmm i see. To bad that.

Full metal alchemist brotherhood is well excellent. The third anime serie i have finished. And wether it is my favourite is a bit harder, guess it might be on tie 1 on anime and top 3 overall wether is anime or not.? Either way the series was fantastic. The opneing scenes, the ending scenes is fantastic. I feel the pacing overall is fantastic, i really get why ppl considred it among the best series ever made.

Alot of varied and good characters. Alot of characters that has there moments, and it also has to be one of those series were its hard choosing one favurite , i mean ofc there are some you will like more then others, but who is your favourite is really subjective here if it makes sense, well i guess it is in any series. Still there is alot of varied and good characters. The plot is fantastic with alot of small twist , also like that thin that happens in early episode really feel kind of important, and all those small references.
Great music. Not to predictable and the ending is also pretty good, not the best ending i have seen, but good enough it close of the plot in a satisfying and conclusive manner, however some of the characters you kind of witch you got some more clues where there will be down the line instead of you having to guess based on some small photos at the end, still that i guess is more opinion then and error if you can say that.

Also alot of the characters get their moment, and i would arguably say that while the main characters is excellent, they dont feel too op, etc, they feel smart, the develop, the go trouh some tough times, and they have to have help like most of us, there isnt a chosen one really, but yeah there is alot of good characters.

Alot of memorable scenes, alot of good fighting sequences, good drama, good action, great music as i said. A fantastic anime that has 62 excellent epiosdes, where there really isnt a episode i didnt like. I will almost certaintly give it another watch and see if can pickup all those small details. Great anime .

With that said the last two episodes is only based on storyboards from the manga whatever that means. I also feel there is no episode that really is a filler. A also really liked the questions the series ask. Good show. Is a reason is that high on imdb and myanimelist. What episode a like the most well thats something i have to think about , the same with moments even tough i have a lot of fav mometns one of my really fav i guess is a bit early in the show however a ranking well is hard, i tend not to agree that much with rankings list of episodes, perhaps characters, still this has to be one of those series that really get that is hard to choose a favourite, however highly recommended, and sry for the long post.

All in all excellent plot, characters/cast, villains, music, themes, fighting sequenses etc.

  28. Wow cool 🙂

    • It was a great game. 😀

      • Yeah it was. Well you will most likely enjoy 1 and 2 too.

So finishing 40 games next year nice, i manged 37 i think this year with two games i have finished before.

    • Utawarerumono is the adaptation of a visual novel/tactical RPG that was never released outside of Japan. It has two sequels, Mask of Deception and Mask of Truth, which were both localized recently and are considered pretty good, but people recommend you don’t go into Mask of Truth especially without being familiar with the first game’s story. The anime adaptation is considered pretty good and recommended to people who can’t play the Japanese game.

      • Hmm i see. Thanks.

        • No problem. 🙂 So I’m planning to watch the anime before getting the sequel games.

          • I see sounds good.

Your getting re 2 or kh 3?

            • KH3 is already preordered, and I’ll probably pick up RE2 eventually.

              • Nice.

While there is a lot of game i potentially wants there hasnt been any game i really think i will get on release, perhaps if i get my gaming mood back beside playing some fifa 16 and some other games, and the critcs is high, i will most likely wait for sale.

However i been buying quite alot of movies tough.

                • Gotcha. I’m planning to play KH3 immediately. I also started watching another anime, The Devil is a Part-Timer.

                  • I see. Kh 2 is among my fav games and i just dont have any hype for it.

Devil is part-timer nice i have heard about that one. Any good?

                    • Why not? Didn’t you enjoy the games that came out since then?

And I’ve been enjoying it, decently humorous anime, with some good action scenes too.

                    • Sry for the late answer. I have only played 1 and 2. Wanted to play bbs, but never managed to before my ps3 broke. I just dont know , i just dont feel for it to buy it now. I mean i will probably pick it up on a sale or so, but right now is just yeah well its out and i just dont care to much, i have read a little but yeah.

                      Thats nice.

I have been finishing indigo prophecy. Also finished doom 1 and 2 and serious sam hd . Same with invincible inc some weeks ago.
Started west of loathing , detroit become human, thief 2. Also thinking about starting spyro when i am done with detroit and also starting Contrast and Her story too.

When it comes to tv shows i just started Stranger Things. And doing a rewatch of 24 season 2.

    • No problem. Don’t forget that if you do want to catch up on Kingdom Hearts, the entire series is available on the PS4 now. I finished KH3 over the weekend and absolutely loved it!

That’s a lot of games. I have Spyro, but I’m not sure when I’ll start it. I might finally get around to playing TWEWY Final Remix now.

      • Oh yeah thats right. Perhaps, i might think about it, i kind of want to play bbs and ddd ,but they arent a priority , this year i will probably finish alot of steam games. But , thanks-
Nice, so what would you rate it or give it? Among your top 20 games? I heard that its good, but thats is still opens up for a potential new sequels etc. How is it compare to say kh 2?

Yeah i guess it indead is. Well i am one of those who dont really have a problem playing different games at the same time. But, yeah it is.
Oh yeah twewy is a game i need to finish however i will finish the ds version tough. Whats new in the final remix tough, you know?
Thats the problem i have with some games, i want to play it, but i just dont have time or find the time to do it so it kind of get pushed back , then i might pick it up and play it later etc.

        • Gotcha, makes sense.

Hmm, I’m not sure how I’d rate it, but it’s definitely one of my top Kingdom Hearts games. I’m conflicted over whether Birth By Sleep is still my favorite and KH3 is second, or if KH3 has taken its place as my favorite.

I disliked how KH2 had most of its worlds just be walking and fighting until you reach the next scene, without much exploration, so I really liked KH3 bringing back exploration. KH3 is also the first time I’ve enjoyed the gummi ship sections.

I play multiple games at the same time too, but since I wanted to prioritize KH3, I didn’t start anything new leading up to it.

TWEWY Final Remix changed the controls to work on a system with only one screen (there’s a touchscreen control option that works like the mobile port and a Joy-Con control option if you’re playing docked) and also added a new epilogue/post-game story after you beat the main game.

          • I see. Well is good that you enjoyed it tough.

Hmm, yeah i can see that.

Yeah , that to kind of makes sense when you look forward to something.

I see, i hope the new epilogue/post-game story is good tough.

  29. […] year, I once again vowed to play at least 40 games to create a dent in my […]

  30. I see, i guess that makes sense since it got a remaster. Nice that.

No i did`nt. Or i watched a friend play one of those on the ps2, but now i don`t recall me playing.

    • The best thing about the remaster of Vesperia is that it includes the content from the PS3 version, which had never been localized before.

The PS2 Spyro games weren’t any good, in my opinion. The original trilogy was the best, and then after that it switched developers and started to go downhill.

  31. Yeah thats cool. Isnt that two bonus playable characters? Some bosses etc?

Yeah i have heard. But thats my only thing i have experienced from the series before the hd collection.
It seems peoplke have various favoruite regarding the first 3 spyro games tough.

    • Yeah, so it’s pretty exciting that they finally localized that content, even though it caused some voice acting trouble.

Hmm, I’m not sure which I’d pick as my favorite out of the original three Spyro games. Ripto’s Rage stands out, but that was also the first one I played, so I might be biased there.

  32. Thars nice tough.

I see, that makes sense 🙂

Well i have been starting to play Darkest Dungeon tough. So right now is mostly being far cry 4 and darkest dungeon. But i also try to play some thief 2, spyro and detroit, but is not going to well right now.

  33. Yeah i actually think its pretty good. Alot of good and variety in classes and their abilites. The game is even pretty hard just on the lowest difficulity. I think the great think is that you have to experiment with what classes, witch abilites do you like, some classes can even do multiple things, depending on the situtation or dungeon etc, like the bounty hunter can both me a marker and help mark enemies for more damgae for other or a stunner etc. I like that you have to use multiple characters. I like that when a characters hit 0 hp he still can take some beating if your lucky. And this also a game were you will lose characters, you just have to live with it in this game. The atmosphere is top notch. The music isnt that bad either. The story i really dont care that much about, more the gameplay, the combat, testing different types of combos. You also have to think about what to use your money on or rather what to upgrade first in the hub.
The game is pretty great and alot of the bosses has three variertys. While the game has three dificulty modes, the bosses also have three different version of them, one a little harder then the other so if you have to beat some bosses 3x times on the easiest hard mode, or for that matter the hardest , makes sense?
    Excellent game tough.
