Operation Backlog Completion 2025
Feb 022018

Just a quick blog post today (partly because it’s my birthday).

After the site went down in January, a few pieces never quite recovered. For example, we lost the collapsing archives that used to be in the sidebar, the list of similar content at the end of each post, and the lightbox effect for images.

It was also brought to my attention that the site design itself could be considered outdated.

So since I’ll have to make some changes anyway because of the first issue, I’ve been considering a redesign. But what sort of site design is best? Since you’re the ones who will be reading it, I’d like your feedback.

Which do you prefer?

  1. Keep this design, with the blog post front and center.
  2. Switch to a design that shows many recent blog posts at once on the front page, like the design for my Kingdom Hearts fan site, KH Theories.
  3. Switch to a static front page with links to different types of content.
  4. Go with a hybrid that has a static front page and recent posts, like the current design for my new game site, Lovecraft Video Games.
  5. You have a different idea (let me know what it is in the comments).

Let me know your thoughts and ideas in the comments.

This is mainly a message to my email subscribers, letting you know I am no longer using Feedburner. Instead, I’ve switched to Mad Mimi.

If you’ve already subscribed, you don’t have to change anything. The emails will just look a little different when they arrive.

If you haven’t subscribed, you can do so by entering your email address here or using the form in the sidebar.

You can read the full blog posts in your email, although there are a few benefits to visiting the full site instead:

  • Fancy content (tables, numbered lists, spoiler tags, etc.) doesn’t display right in the feed format. Don’t worry about seeing spoilers, though. Content within spoiler tags doesn’t show up at all.
  • Related posts are listed here on the site for each post.
  • The feed does not recognize updates to a post as new content, such as when I add new parts to my LP. (More reason to follow me on Facebook and Twitter.)
  • You can only leave comments here on the site.

Fortunately, each email also includes a link to the post in question. You can always come here if you want to see the original post.

And for those of you using RSS readers, you should use this feed URL, although the Feedburner link should continue to receive updates.

Once you’ve received a post or two, let me know how it works out. Is this new format better than Feedburner’s, or do you wish I hadn’t switched? What features do you like the most?

I am back!

As you probably know, I went from anticipating the Wild Hunt to not having a functional PC. Now its cooling system (the actual culprit) has been replaced, my new graphics card is installed, and I’m back in action!

So, what did I do during my time without a PC? I used my Wii U.

Wii_U_logoI’ve enjoyed my Wii U since I got it, especially after the release of Bayonetta 2 (no, I’m not tired of talking about how great it was). I loved Bayonetta 2 so much, it alone was justification to have a Wii U.

But after this computer debacle? I love my Wii U more than ever.

See, I can get a wi-fi signal in my usual haunt, but it’s weak and unstable. Wired Internet connections are my friend. I’d just bought an ethernet adapter so I could take the Wii U online, and this meant I could get a better connection with my Wii U than with my iPad. The Wii U’s Internet browser can’t do everything–but it can do a lot.

That blog post announcing my delay? I wrote it from my Wii U. I used my Wii U to help me stay on track with my freelance writing. I used it to chat with friends while I worked on stories. I used it to keep up to date with gaming news–and all the exciting announcements I couldn’t share here.

All this quality time with my Wii U also gave me reason to finally return to EarthBound, which I played a tiny bit of back when I first got my Wii U and then abandoned for other things. In between writing and working, I played EarthBound… and finished it.

So stay tuned for a catch-up article on video game news, my thoughts on EarthBound, and maybe a few E3 predictions before the big event arrives! In the meantime, tell me if you use your Wii U for more than just gaming… and if you don’t have one yet, why not?
