Operation Backlog Completion 2026

If you’ll recall, back during Xbox’s E3 show, Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal were announced for a multiplatform release, later confirmed for PS4 and Switch as well.

Persona 5 is already out, but Persona 3 and Persona 4 ports are set to be released on January 19.

Well, some new gameplay features have been announced for these ports, as translated here by Persona Central.

First, you’ll be able to choose your difficulty level at the start of the game, as well as change the difficulty at any point in P3P, which wasn’t an option before. There’s also a new quick save feature in both games that lets you save at any time. It’s not clear right now if that will be a permanent save, or the sort of quick save that goes away once you load it. Either way, it’s a nice feature for convenience.

Finally, Persona 4 Golden will have a new “Album” feature that lets you replay social link scenes to make different choices. Persona 4 Golden is already on Steam, but it’s expected to get an update to coincide with the release of the new port.

Only Japanese pricing has been announced so far, but based on that, people are expecting them to cost $19.99 each here. There’s been no word about a physical release.

For a long time, I was holding out hope for a definitive remake of Persona 3 that would combine the best of both versions, because I could never make up my mind on whether I wanted to play Persona 3 FES for the 3D exploration and epilogue story or Persona 3 Portable for the manual party control and female protagonist option, and I’m still not convinced that Atlus doesn’t have a Persona 3 remake announcement waiting to spring on people. However, with some quality of life additions and a low price point, this upcoming Persona 3 Portable port is looking increasingly attractive.

Are you planning to play Persona 3 Portable and/or Persona 4 Golden when they’re ported next year?

This year is the 25th anniversary of the Persona series, and Atlus has opened up an anniversary website.

The website doesn’t say a lot yet, but it teases seven announcements to come.

The first is set for this September, while the last is autumn 2022, with five announcements in between. Before you get too excited, these probably won’t all be for games – but at least some of them should be.

And there’s very good reason to believe one of these announcements will be the official reveal of Persona 6.

In addition to the announcement teasers, Atlus also has revealed anniversary-themed merchandise. One is an acrylic stand featuring posters for each mainline entry in the series. It doesn’t include spin-offs, only the main games… and two “secret” posters at the end.

The merchandise also includes trading cards of the main protagonists… with the final one also being “secret” for now.

A secret image alongside the main protagonists and two secret posters alongside posters of exclusively mainline games really makes this look like Persona 6 is being teased.

As for the others… we’ll just have to wait and see. The first announcement is set for September!

What do you expect the Persona projects to be? Do you think Persona 6 is one of them, and what do you think it will be like?

I wasn’t sure what to think when Persona 5 Strikers was first announced, a Persona 5 sequel in the form of a Dynasty Warriors style spin-off.

The more we learned about it, though, the more interested I became.

Now that I’ve finished it, I’m happy to say that despite the different genre of gameplay, Persona 5 Strikers really does feel like a sequel.

Set after the events of Persona 5, the main cast of characters gets back together for summer vacation, only to discover that people’s hearts are being changed.

Instead of Palaces, strange areas known as Jails are appearing in the Metaverse across Japan and changing people’s behavior in the real world, and so the Phantom Thieves set off on a journey to stop the phenomenon and learn the truth of what is happening.

A couple of new characters are also introduced as part of the main plot, and they’re great (especially Zenikichi).

Gameplay-wise, it’s technically a Musou (Dynasty Warriors), but really it ends up feeling like a regular action JRPG. In fact, it does an impressive job of incorporating Persona 5’s gameplay elements into the new combat to really make me think, “Yes, if Persona was an action RPG, this is what it would feel like.”

You’ll hack-and-slash your way through groups of enemies, but also make use of summoning Personas, exploiting enemy weaknesses, and triggering follow-up moves and all-out attacks. It gets pretty challenging at times, too.

Oh, and I have to mention that the music is fantastic. My favorite is “Daredevil,” which plays at a key point in each Jail, and whenever it started playing, my only regret was that progressing in the story meant it would stop playing.

There’s a lot of great music, but that one especially stands out to me.

The one thing it’s missing from the Persona gameplay loop is the social aspect, since the calendar only moves based on story progress and you don’t have separate stories to progress with the other characters. There are still points where you can talk to your party members and see short scenes with them, as well as earning “Bond Points” to spend on special bonuses, but there’s nothing really like the confidant system.

With that said, it still feels very much like Persona 5 in tone. The story, the character interactions, the fun scenes with the characters hanging out at various places – it’s all there, and it’s as Persona as it can be.

I really enjoyed playing Persona 5 Strikers, and I can’t get over how much it felt like a proper sequel instead of just a quick spin-off. If you liked Persona 5 and aren’t wholly opposed to action JRPGs, I definitely recommend you give Persona 5 Strikers a try!
