Novect’s Project Code M is in the Latter Half of Development

One of the biggest surprises of 2025 was Aksys announcing during their July showcase that they’re the publisher for the console version of Novect’s Project Code M.

Project Code M was announced back in 2022, so it’s exciting to see it getting closer to release.

It’s a detective game, but one where you play as both the detective and the murderer.

Novect routinely posts about the game’s development on their blog, and the latest entry mentions that “development has firmly entered the latter half of production,” with the scenario being 95% complete. It sounds like it’s still a long way off, but it’s great to know it’s progressing well.

If it’s even half as good as The House in Fata Morgana, it will be well worth the wait.

(Sorry for the short post today; I thought I’d have finished another game by now to review as we head closer and closer to the end of the year, but I didn’t quite get there in time! There’s no way I’m meeting this year’s backlog goal, but I’m still hoping to add a few more to the count before the year ends.)

Back during May Mystery Game Madness, we discussed the upcoming new adventure game from NOVECT in which you play as both murderer and detective.

Now NOVECT is at BitSummit and has revealed a new trailer for the game that highlights the detective and daily life parts.

It’s still using the code name “M,” but that won’t be its official title.

The trailer shows its investigation gameplay as well as some conversations with a couple of new characters wearing gas masks. I can’t follow what’s going on, since it’s in Japanese, so maybe someone could help us out with that.

Since the game has a demo at BitSummit, maybe we’ll soon see impressions of it, as well.

I find the trailer interesting. Something about Marianne’s movements feel strange to me, but since the other characters have similar ways of moving without the same effect, I think it’s mainly her coat.

Anyway, I look forward to learning more about “M” (and getting an official title for it). What did you think of the new trailer?

May Mystery Game Madness: NOVECT Announces Project Code Name M

I thought taking a break for news would mean a break from the mystery game celebration, but today’s news is actually perfect for the theme.

NOVECT, the developer of The House in Fata Morgana, has announced that their new project is a mystery adventure game being referred to as Project Code Name “M.”

(That’s a working title.)

I absolutely adored The House in Fata Morgana, so I was awaiting the news of NOVECT’s new project. Now that I know what it is, I’m more interested than ever.

“M” is a mystery game told from two perspectives: the killer’s and the detective’s.

As the killer, you’ll try to set up the perfect crime, while as the detective, you’ll investigate a serial murder case.

That sounds pretty interesting. I don’t know how the dual perspectives will work out, but after The House in Fata Morgana, I have high hopes for their storytelling.

“M” is planned for Switch, PS4, and PC. According to an interview with The Mako Reactor, they’re hoping for a 2023 release but can’t make any definite statements yet.

I can’t wait to learn more about this game. Who knows, maybe it can be included in a future year’s celebration.

(In unrelated news, Tales of Luminaria is shutting down in July not even lasting a full year. Guess I won’t be trying that one. Silent Hill rumors are also running rampant, with some credibility this time due to the leaker’s account getting locked due to a DMCA notice after sharing supposed concept art. We’ll see.)
