That’s right, GameFaqs’ “Best. Game. Ever.” contest/poll has reached the division finals. Which games will advance? Probably not half the ones I’ll vote for! We lost some of my all-time favorites in Round 1, and more of my choices fell away in Round 2 and Round 3, but let’s take a look at the games that remain.
Division I
Chrono Trigger vs. Super Smash Bros. Melee – The current vote percentages suggest this will be a tight race. I know Smash is a very popular series, but it just isn’t for me. Especially when it’s up against a fantastic RPG. I’m pulling for Chrono Trigger to make it.
Division II
Final Fantasy VI vs. Final Fantasy VII – A battle of two RPG colossi, here! I love both of these games, and this was a hard choice. Shh… in the end, I picked Final Fantasy VI, though I have little doubt Final Fantasy VII will win.
Oh, and don’t worry. We will talk about the Final Fantasy VII remake controversy soon, from the combat system to its multi-part release…
Division III
Pokémon Red/Blue vs. Undertale – The fact that I’m listening to Spear of Justice as I write this should be a sign. Pokémon is great, but sadly it isn’t Gold/Silver or Black/White that advanced this far to make me conflicted. Once again, I’ll vote for the funniest game I’ve playing this year, Undertale.
Division IV
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim vs. Super Mario 64 – I have no great love for the Elder Scrolls series, as has become apparent during this contest. Go, go, Mario!
Division V
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time vs. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night – This is a difficult choice because I suspect I would enjoy Symphony of the Night if I played it. And while I liked Ocarina, it isn’t my favorite Zelda game. I’ll probably vote for Ocarina of Time, but feel free to convince me otherwise.
Division VI
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past vs. The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask – Like the Final Fantasy face-off above, we’ve now got two legendary Zelda games against one another! For this round… I will abstain, since I’ve yet to properly play either game.
Division VII
Super Mario RPG vs. Resident Evil 4 – Go, go Mario! Sure, I haven’t played Super Mario RPGs yet, but 1) I love RPGs, and 2) I do not want the game that began Resident Evil’s departure from survival horror to make it into the finals! Let’s rally for Super Mario RPG!
Division VIII
Metal Gear Solid vs. Metal Gear Solid 3 – Well… I enjoyed the story of Metal Gear Solid, but I know nothing about MGS 3. It looks like I’ll have to abstain once again.
Which games are you voting for in the division finals? Let me know in the comments below!

Undertale must DIE.
I’m sorry, what did you say? I was too busy listening to Spear of Justice. 🙂
You are actually the worst.
….sorry I love you I didn’t mean that.
…….. *facepalm*
I mean it you’re one of of my favourite people. ^.^
D’awww…
You know the irony with Undertale is that if it was up against one of my other favorites, like Ace Attorney or Tales of Symphonia, I’d have already voted against it. Yet most of my favorites dropped out early, because I guess my usual taste isn’t mainstream.
I’m so happy to have a writer friend, and… I want more writer friends, actually.
You just happen to be a very nice, outstanding, honourable, and cute person. ^.^
*ahem*
Hey, at least some of your favourites got NOMINATED.
And a good writer? Fiction writer? *glances toward fiction section*
None of your favorite games were nominated?
…are you trying to sell your books right now
Oh, SOME of them were nominated. Several!
I’m just unhappy that Yoshi’s Island wasn’t.
Well since you expressed such happiness at being friends with a writer, I thought it was a good time to remind you that this writer friend has writing. 😉
Ah, gotcha.
…Thanks for the reminder, ma’am.
