Ace-Attorney-6-coverThis weekend gave us a huge amount of Ace Attorney 6 news.

The biggest announcement was probably the return of Maya Fey, but we also have cover art, a new trailer, the Japanese release date, pre-order bonus information, a demo, and more characters.

The box art, pictured to the right, features Phoenix, Maya, Apollo, and Nayuta. When Nayuta was first revealed, his gender was in doubt, but he’s been confirmed as male.

It’s still unclear if a second main prosecutor will be featured, but Nayuta’s place on the cover suggests he’s the most prominent. It seems as though he will appear at least once in Kurain, while Leifa will appear at least once in Japan/California.

We don’t know who the detective will be yet, either. Fans went a little crazy over “detective Jesus,” but the character in question is just a witness (possibly the culprit). Let’s cross our fingers for the return of Gumshoe, Ema, or both.

Maya will be Phoenix’s assistant in Kurain, as she went there to further her spiritual training. She looks a lot like she did in the trilogy, though not identical, since she’s older.

Check out adult Maya in the new trailer, subtitled by Bolt2nd.

Apollo’s assistant will be Athena. So far, they’ve only referenced Phoenix and Apollo as playable characters, which means Athena probably won’t lead a case this time.

We don’t know how many cases there will be (I’m hoping for 6), but two bonus “non-canon episodes” are available as pre-order bonuses. One is set in Kurain and features Phoenix versus Edgeworth, while the other is set in Japan/California and features Apollo versus Klavier.

The Kurain episode also includes Pearl, while the Japan/California episode has Jinxie.

I like Jinxie, but I didn’t know she was popular enough to warrant a return, even in a bonus case. And is that Pearl and Bokuto on the stand together? Will Ace Attorney 6 have cross-examinations of multiple witnesses?

The wording suggests these bonus episodes won’t be full-length cases, but they’ll still have investigations and trial sections. With any luck, they’ll be pre-order bonuses in the West as well… and perhaps made available as DLC later on.

Like in Dual Destinies, each attorney has an alternate DLC costume, also available as pre-order bonuses: Phoenix gets Furio Tigre’s suit, Apollo gets a boarding school uniform, and Athena gets a Trés Bien waitress outfit.

Ace Attorney 6 is set for June 9 in Japan, with no word yet on its localized release date. Japan also has a limited edition, which includes a CD, tote bag, art book, and keychains.

An Ace Attorney 6 demo is available and can be played in your browser. It’s entirely in Japanese, but it’s worth a look to get a feeling for the game.

  1. If there’s one nice thing about having digital-only in America, it’s that we’ll get those pre-order bonuses as DLC as opposed to actually having to go out and pre-order the game.

Anyway, this is very exciting! And it’s nice to juxtapose this and, say, Color Splash and see that this game is taking care to reference and work off of its previous iterations. Not only as the DLC costumes, but, y’know, Maya coming back and all. And obviously she doesn’t die from that creep attacking her in the restaurant. Or even trapped in the hospital for the rest of the case, since she appears right by Wright’s side.

It looks like we’ll have at least one case in the game with Apollo & Athena back at home, with them undergoing some kind of crisis. I wonder if they’ll adapt whatever court mechanics happen in Kurain.

    Sounds great!

    • Unless they tie it to digital pre-orders or something.

Yes! Some good video game news is nice to see in the midst of the Color Splash nightmare. Of course, not all fans are happy. I’ve seen people complaining Maya hasn’t changed enough, complaining about her return, and even complaining there’s too much content. -_-

The Kurain court mechanics seem to involve the water pool. Unless Leifa brings the pool with her, I’d be surprised if the mechanic was adapted. I expect the cases back home will stick to Perceive and the Mood Matrix.

Hopefully they’ll finally discuss Apollo and Trucy’s relationship, too, especially since it seems like the Gramaryes will be important to at least one case.

      • wot the hell is a digital pre-order
The pre-load thing? Has that been tied to bonuses before? And has it been done for Non-Nintendo games on the 3DS? 😮

Too much content? That could be sort of valid… if getting a new Ace Attorney wasn’t a relatively rare thing.

Maya is fiiiiine. And people were begging for her return as the #1 thing they wanted to see all the way back in Dual Destinies. I have full confidence there is enough material to make Maya relevant, especially given the game’s setting. (I know folks think her story was finished at the end of Trials & Tribulations, so why keep bringing her back if she’s done? Similar complaint people have for Wright himself.)

Well there might be other weird customs that don’t involve the damn water pool, like cross-examining two dudes at once like you pointed out.

Will the Gramaryes be important? You could see references to them at the office back in Dual Destinies, too. Didn’t make ’em important then. Though I do hope they, uh, discuss that relationship. Say, have we seen Trucy yet in AA6?

        • maybe she is the victim in the case ?

        • I’m not sure if pre-loads have ever been tied to pre-order bonuses on Nintendo games, or whether pre-loads are possible for non-Nintendo games on the 3DS. I just thought I should mentioned the possibility.

Has it been confirmed AA6 will be digital-only like Dual Destinies was?

Well, I saw concerns that having two locations, two playable characters, two assistants, etc. would be too much… for some reason.

I think introducing the Kingdom of Kurain alone provides the potential for more story involving Maya, not to mention any character development she’s undergone in the years since Phoenix last saw her.

I do hope cross-examining multiple witnesses returns. 😀 One of my favorite PLvPW features.

I think the Gramaryes will be important because one case seems to involve Trucy’s magic show, and because the Gramarye poster showed an additional Gramarye they’ve never shown before.

Come to think of it, you’re right. I don’t think we’ve seen Trucy yet.

          • No, Capcom has not confirmed how AA6 will be distributed in North America.
But it’s the most likely possibility.

Dual Destinies had three of everything besides location (and does location matter that much?). Trials and Tribulations bad Past & Present, as did Apollo Justice.

            • I still hope for physical copies.

I assume the people afraid AA6 will have too much content are the same people who feel Dual Destinies’ story suffered from having three playable characters.

  2. what do you think is the conection between Apollo and the new prosecutor ?

  3. You know, I asumed you had already saw that a new witness appears in the first case of AA6, that guy with a guitar and if we also added that the girl dress as a bunny in the case of Apollo, so far they seem to be the killers, so what I am trying to say is, really? so eas? hat is this, DD?

  4. freely investigations? like in AAi ?
