Operation Backlog Completion 2025

We’ve got two pieces of Game Freak news to discuss today, the first being a follow-up to Wednesday’s discussion of Little Town Hero, since a new trailer is out.

This trailer introduces several characters, although I still don’t have much of a feeling for what this game entails besides fighting monsters.

(Also, is it just me, or are they really emphasizing the soundtrack as a selling point? I love Toby Fox’s music, but something about the way the two trailers have highlighted it feels odd to me. Then again, it might be just because I’m skeptical about the game in general.)

Now, I didn’t notice it before, but the official description also describes it as having “compact story progression designed with the busy gamer in mind.” That just increases my concern that there won’t be much to it beyond fighting the monsters.

Moving on to Game Freak’s other upcoming game, Pokémon Sword and Shield will have a 24-hour live stream next Friday, October 6.

24 hours? They must be planning to show a lot of–

No, no, it won’t be 24 hours of footage. It’s 24 hours of “live footage” from within the Glimwood Tangle, a forest area in the Galar Region we haven’t seen yet.

That’s… unusual, but I kinda like the idea behind it. We’ll probably get to see some new Pokémon, and it’s an interesting way to promote the game without spoiling a lot of details, by having “live” footage from within one of the areas. The image they’re using also has me excited to see the Glimwood Tangle, since it looks like it’ll be a beautiful area.

How do you feel about Game Freak’s current projects? Are you interested in Little Town Hero? Are you going to check out the Pokémon Sword and Shield live stream? Let me know in the comments.

  1. I can’t let you get too far ahead of me in Little Town Hero coverage…

Unlike you, I actually went to GAME FREAK’s website and looked for more information there. I found a bunch more Toby Fox adverts, and GAME FREAK spelled their director’s name wrong.

    And there’s coal mines involved.

    • Coal mines, hmm? Sounds like we’ll be leaving the town at least as far as the mines, then?

      • That said, the coal mine is mentioned as part of Axe’s character bio, where he got a mysterious stone or something.

It’s unknown if you’ll encounter the mine in-game or if it’ll just be backstory.

Alternatively, it’s a mining town in West Virginia struggling to stay afloat against the War on Coal.

We do know that there’s a local king and a palace, so either the palace is in the town, you never visit the palace but there’s just cutscenes there, or you do get to leave the town and the game’s marketing is fake news.
