It hasn’t been announced yet, but it seems like a new version of the horror game Amnesia: The Dark Descent is in the works.
The other day, a fan discovered that the 2025 annual report from Frictional Games not only mentioned their upcoming game Ontos, but also a new release of Amnesia: The Dark Descent.
No details were given except that it is “a new version” of Amnesia and is planned for late 2026. It’s unknown if this means a remaster or a remake.
(Imagine if it ends up being a Switch 2 port of the original instead.)
If you’ve been trying to learn more about this, you might have found that it’s not exactly easy to find the original source. Every single article about the news links back only to the Reddit post. The screenshot of the report, which was included in the post, is widely available, but I found myself running against a wall as I asked, “How do you find the annual report in the first place?!”
Finally, finally, I found a site called Allabolag, a Swedish information provider that offers details on Swedish companies. There, the page for Frictional Games included the PDF of the financial report in question. I have no idea if there’s a more direct way to find that report. The important thing is that it looks legitimate.
Amnesia: The Dark Descent was one of the first survival horror games I ever played. I played it before I knew about Steam. I talked about it back in 2015, and even though I never got around to playing the most recent Amnesia game, the first one still has such a special place in my heart.
I’m not sure what a remake or remaster could improve, but I’m at least intrigued by the news. Here’s hoping we get an official announcement soon.
