Neowiz, the developer of Lies of P (among other games), has entered into a deal with Falcom to develop and publish The Legend of Heroes III: The White Witch for PC and consoles, as reported here by Gematsu.
In case you’re unfamiliar with the history of Falcom’s RPGs, the Trails series is itself part of a larger series called The Legend of Heroes.
Now we have to get into some confusing numbering. The Legend of Heroes III: The White Witch was the start of the Gagharv trilogy, but that’s not the real confusing part.
No, the real confusion comes in with its English release, because The Legend of Heroes IV was released in North America first and dropped the number from the title. When The Legends of Heroes III was localized, they then numbered it like it was the second title.
So the Legend of Heroes III: The White Witch and The Legend of Heroes II: Prophecy of the Moonlight Witch are the same game, and it’s the first game of a trilogy.
On top of the confusing renumbering, the English translations are reportedly not so good. That makes it exciting to hear about a remake… except there was controversy around Neowiz earlier this year after they hired someone to use AI art in pre-production, so that’s a shadow cast over this announcement.
