Friday evening, Santa Monica Studio announced the release date for God of War Laufey: February 16.
(The teaser video basically just shows the logo and release date, so there’s no new game details from that.)
God of War Laufey was one of the highlights from June’s State of Play, a new entry in the series that stars Faye after her death in some sort of afterlife for the gods.
Since it was announced with no release window at all, a February release date is sooner than some might have predicted.
On top of that, Cory Barlog also said during a Comic-Con Panel that the next game starring Kratos will be out after Laufey and directly tie to its story.
It’s a little strange to tease the next game like that, but it’s probably both as extra reassurance to fans who were worried there wouldn’t be any more Kratos games, and to entice more fans to play Laufey.
For me, Laufey is in an odd position where I’m intrigued by the story and think the gameplay looks interesting, but between my mixed feelings on Ragnarok and my skepticism toward Phranque the talking cube (I’m sorry, I’m just not convinced that he won’t feel goofy and out of place), I find myself inclined to wait and see what the game’s reception is first.
But who know? Maybe I’ll be convinced between now and February.
What are your thoughts on Laufey’s release date and the other God of War news?
