Nintendo has announced a special Direct about Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream for January 29!

It will start at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET and last 20 minutes.

Since Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is one of my most-anticipated games of 2026, you can imagine how thrilled I was to see the news.

I didn’t think it was a big enough game to get its own focused Direct, so I’m happy to be wrong.

There’s still a lot we don’t know about this upcoming Tomodachi Life sequel. Even though it’s had two trailers so far, neither showed too much about the game’s features. Twenty minutes of new information sounds like exactly what we need.

Some fans have predicted they’ll remove romance and only have a friendship system, which I hope isn’t true, because watching Miis end up in strange and unexpected relationships was a lot of fun. So I hope they confirm romance, along with other things I want to see, like a wide range of customization options and lots of random events. Overall I just hope it’s as wacky and bizarre as the 3DS game was.

Since it’s due out this spring, it seems likely that we’ll get a release date, too.

If Living the Dream is as crazy as Tomodachi Life on the 3DS was, it’ll be a rare time when I’m tempted to buy a digital copy over physical, so I could more easily play it a little here and there while also playing other games. But we’ll see.

What are you hoping to see at the Tomodachi Life Direct?

There was an Xbox live stream yesterday, which I forgot to watch, but it included a new overview video about Beast of Reincarnation.

We discussed Beast of Reincarnation briefly when it was announced last year at the Xbox Games Showcase.

It’s an action RPG being developed by Game Freak for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and it especially stands out because it looks so different from their other games.

(Of course, we all know Game Freak’s best game finally came to the Nintendo Switch in 2024, but all anyone talks about is Pokémon.)

We didn’t know much about Beast of Reincarnation at the time, but the new trailer provides a lot of information.

It has a futuristic setting, and the main character Emma is someone who can manipulate plants and absorb the world’s blight into her body. She works with Koo, who is a dangerous creature known as a malefact.

Although it’s an action RPG, where you fight and parry attacks using Emma’s katana, you can also unleash Koo’s powerful skills through a command-based system. They’re also calling it a “one-person, one-dog RPG,” which is such a funny way to describe it. I love it.

When the game was announced last year, I came away from the trailer with a general “could be neat” impression, but after watching this overview, I’m actually really interested in it!

I’ve never played the Prince of Persia games, but I have a passing interest in them, and I’ve been waiting to see more about the Sands of Time remake.

Announced in 2020, it was supposed to come out in 2021 but got delayed multiple times with only occasional updates stating it was still in development.

It finally resurfaced during the Ubisoft Forward showcase in 2024, where a short teaser trailer gave it a 2026 release window.

That’s this year… but it’s been cancelled.

Yes, as reported by Gematsu, Ubisoft has reported the cancellation of six games as part of restructuring the company, one of which is the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake.

(The other five include 4 unannounced games, but I couldn’t find anything saying what the 5th one is.)

It’s especially strange, because several leakers claimed the game was going to be released soon, even this month.

I’m a little disappointed. Not only was I interested in possibly trying it, but I wanted to see it come out and do well after all its delays. When it resurfaced with that 2026 release window, I thought it actually had a chance. Well, maybe I’ll try the original Sands of Time sometime instead.
