Ace-Attorney-animeI don’t watch a lot of anime, but once the Ace Attorney anime began, I had to give it a try.

I’ve watched the first two episodes, and so far I’m pretty pleased with it. It’s staying pretty true to the game, with some new scenes and conversations added, and it hasn’t lost Ace Attorney’s crazy, over-the-top nature.

The first episode covers the entire tutorial case, but the rest has slower pacing. Some people have said episode three still feels a little rushed, but I haven’t seen it yet to judge. However, I do think including every bit of game dialogue and testimony could be odd in an anime.

I’ve already noticed a few hints of foreshadowing for later events, so it should be enjoyable to watch the story unfold.

I’m especially excited for the third episode, since it will be the first trial of the second case… meaning we’ll get to see anime Edgeworth in action!

From what people have said, Redd White is also much funnier than I remember him in the games, which should be interesting… and much preferable to his other adaptation.

(Seriously, what were the people in charge of the movie thinking??)

The Ace Attorney anime is available on Crunchyroll. Paying members can watch episodes one hour after they air. If you watch for free, like me, you have to wait one week (which is why I haven’t seen Episode 3 yet).

Subtitles are available, including an alternate English track that uses the localized names. Right-click the video player to select that option.

Right now, the Ace Attorney anime seems like it will be a great way to experience the story. And apparently people who tried the anime on Crunchyroll liked it enough to try the games, so the fanbase is growing! Enough for a physical release of Ace Attorney 6?

Enough for Investigations 2 and Dai Gyakuten Saiban localization?

I’ll never lose hope. And for the time being, I’ll look forward to each new episode of the anime.

Ace-Attorney-6-coverThis weekend gave us a huge amount of Ace Attorney 6 news.

The biggest announcement was probably the return of Maya Fey, but we also have cover art, a new trailer, the Japanese release date, pre-order bonus information, a demo, and more characters.

The box art, pictured to the right, features Phoenix, Maya, Apollo, and Nayuta. When Nayuta was first revealed, his gender was in doubt, but he’s been confirmed as male.

It’s still unclear if a second main prosecutor will be featured, but Nayuta’s place on the cover suggests he’s the most prominent. It seems as though he will appear at least once in Kurain, while Leifa will appear at least once in Japan/California.

We don’t know who the detective will be yet, either. Fans went a little crazy over “detective Jesus,” but the character in question is just a witness (possibly the culprit). Let’s cross our fingers for the return of Gumshoe, Ema, or both.

Maya will be Phoenix’s assistant in Kurain, as she went there to further her spiritual training. She looks a lot like she did in the trilogy, though not identical, since she’s older.

Check out adult Maya in the new trailer, subtitled by Bolt2nd.

Apollo’s assistant will be Athena. So far, they’ve only referenced Phoenix and Apollo as playable characters, which means Athena probably won’t lead a case this time.

We don’t know how many cases there will be (I’m hoping for 6), but two bonus “non-canon episodes” are available as pre-order bonuses. One is set in Kurain and features Phoenix versus Edgeworth, while the other is set in Japan/California and features Apollo versus Klavier.

The Kurain episode also includes Pearl, while the Japan/California episode has Jinxie.

I like Jinxie, but I didn’t know she was popular enough to warrant a return, even in a bonus case. And is that Pearl and Bokuto on the stand together? Will Ace Attorney 6 have cross-examinations of multiple witnesses?

The wording suggests these bonus episodes won’t be full-length cases, but they’ll still have investigations and trial sections. With any luck, they’ll be pre-order bonuses in the West as well… and perhaps made available as DLC later on.

Like in Dual Destinies, each attorney has an alternate DLC costume, also available as pre-order bonuses: Phoenix gets Furio Tigre’s suit, Apollo gets a boarding school uniform, and Athena gets a Trés Bien waitress outfit.

Ace Attorney 6 is set for June 9 in Japan, with no word yet on its localized release date. Japan also has a limited edition, which includes a CD, tote bag, art book, and keychains.

An Ace Attorney 6 demo is available and can be played in your browser. It’s entirely in Japanese, but it’s worth a look to get a feeling for the game.

It’s time to deviate from the usual blogging schedule, because Capcom has unveiled the mysterious Ace Attorney 6 prosecutor we’ve been wondering about.

Ace-Attorney-6-prosecutor

He… or possibly she, as Court-Records says the prosecutor’s gender is unclear even in the full Famitsu article, is an international prosecutor and a monk in the Kingdom of Kurain, Nayuta Saadmadhi.

Nayuta believes a guilty verdict brings salvation to the culprit’s victim.

Also, how do you top the convicted murderer “Twisted Samurai” prosecutor? Call your new character the Funeral Prosecutor.

The scans also show Apollo and Athena facing off against Nayuta to defend a girl named Mimi, who seems to be involved in Trucy’s magic show.

Ace-Attorney-6-Mimi-and-Gramarye-posterFans at Court-Records also noticed that in the background behind Mimi, there is what appears to be a poster for the Gramaryes… but with someone in green on it.

This “green Gramarye” has raised questions, and some fans theorize it’s Apollo’s father.

It would definitely be nice if Ace Attorney 6 finally wrapped up the loose ends from Apollo Justice, which this suggests it might.

Let’s go back to the prosecutor, though. Nayuta is from Kurain… but facing Apollo in Japan (which will probably be localized to America, as usual).

Does this mean Phoenix will face a different prosecutor? And why would a prosecutor from Kurain go to Japan/America right when a lawyer from Japan/America goes to Kurain? It sounds like there will be a connection between the two…

Share your theories and thoughts on the Funeral Prosecutor in the comments! Also, do you think Nayuta is male or female? At a quick glance, I say “male,” but then I take a closer look and say, “No, that might be a woman…”

(I still want to face Vampire Edgeworth, Capcom… please give us DGS after this!)
