Today brought an unexpected piece of news for players looking forward to Digimon Survive: a release date!

The long-awaited Digimon game, which was first announced in 2018, will be out on July 28 in Japan for the Switch and PS4.

Digimon Survive is a strategy RPG visual novel/adventure game that sounds like it will be highly story-driven.

Back in February, there was a Digimon Survive Q&A at Digimon Con. When asked about the game’s content, they said the ratio of text adventure content to tactical battles would be roughly 7:3. Your choices will lead to the game branching into three main routes later on, as well as a secret route.

However, since they weren’t able to give a release date for the game, it seemed as though it was probably delayed once again. Apparently not, though, since now they’ve announced the July 28 release.

I’m not too familiar with the Digimon series (although the Cyber Sleuth games are waiting in my backlog), but I’m curious about this one since it seems to be so story-driven. 70% visual novel/adventure to 30% combat sounds a bit like Utawarerumono levels of story-driven.

(Speaking of which, I need to get back to that series, too.)

People have been waiting for Digimon Survive for quite a while, and now it seems like it’s almost here… in Japan, at least. What the western release date will be, we don’t know yet.

Are you interested in Digimon Survive?

One upcoming game we haven’t talked about yet that has intrigued me for a while now is Yurukill: The Calumniation Games.

As described on the official website, you play a character falsely accused of killing 21 people, now imprisoned and forced to play a game to win your freedom.

It’s a mystery game that features puzzles, cross-examinations, and…

…shoot ’em up segments.

That’s the one thing that has kept me from making up my mind about Yurukill just yet. The story and overall style looks like my sort of thing, and I like that sort of death game/escape game premise, but I’ve never been a big shoot ’em up fan.

Still, it’s an unusual combination and the game seems pretty interesting. A new story trailer came out today, which is what caught my attention.

It will be out on May 25 in Japan, July 5 in North America, and July 8 in Europe, for PS5, PS4, and Switch, with a PC version to follow sometime as well.

What do you think of Yurukill: The Calumniation Games? Are you planning to pick it up?

(In unrelated news, the replacement of the broken mobile Phoenix Wright Trilogy with a better port has now been confirmed for the west as well, but I didn’t think that warranted its own post.)

There’s a good chance you thought the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy was the same across all its various releases, but that’s not quite true.

The mobile version in particular had several problems and was considered the worst of the available versions.

(The mobile port of the first game alone, which is actually what got me into the series and was much better, was taken down in favor of that, too.)

Anyway, Capcom announced that the mobile version of the Phoenix Wright Trilogy is being discontinued on June 9.

However, it will be replaced by a port of the Phoenix Wright Trilogy that has been released on everything else.

Save data won’t carry over, but in short, soon the mobile trilogy will match the better version available on other systems. Considering the problems the mobile version had, I’m surprised it took them this long.

The announcement has only been made for Japan so far, but I assume the same will happen globally.

Okay, so this isn’t quite the exciting Ace Attorney news we’ve been hoping to see, but anything that makes it easier for people to play the games is a good thing! I’m still holding out hope for something to come of that mysterious Apollo Justice trademark.
