Operation Backlog Completion 2026

Back in November, we learned Final Fantasy XV would get an Episode Ardyn DLC, along with at least two more “Episode” DLCs.

Since Tabata mentioned fans’ interest in seeing more of Luna, Episode Luna felt like a safe bet as well.

Now, in new interviews translated by Gematsu, he said there will be four more “Episode” DLCs, and they will probably extend into 2019.

He’s also viewing the new DLC as being expansions to Final Fantasy XV’s overall universe, and thinks users no longer want gaps to be filled in the main story.

(The major gaps have been filled, and Episode Ardyn will help, but I’m not so sure they couldn’t make a few more improvements.)

Tabata also mentioned that the PC version of Final Fantasy XV will have an official mod creation tool.

Final Fantasy XV is the game that just won’t end! Support is nice, but it’s odd that even after the Royal Edition comes out, there will still be four DLC episodes not included. Will there eventually be a more complete edition released after the Royal Edition?

And when will it stop?

Now, I’ve criticized Final Fantasy XV’s DLC several times, but I admit I’ll buy that Episode Ardyn DLC. As for the rest, we’ll see.

What do you think about this latest development, and what do you think is the future of Final Fantasy XV?

Final Fantasy XV has three DLC episodes out (along with a multiplayer expansion), more DLC on the way, free updates with gameplay changes and additional lore, and… now a Royal Edition on the way.

The Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition, as well as the PC version, will be out on March 6. In addition to the main game, it includes:

  • The three DLC episodes and the multiplayer expansion
  • An expanded explorable map for the Insomnia City Ruins, with side quests and special enemies
  • A controllable Royal Vessel boat that lets you explore between Cape Caem and Altissia
  • A powerful “Armiger Unleashed” option once you collect all the royal arms
  • A first-person camera mode
  • Weapons, car skins, and items
  • New myths and legends about the world, along with an Archive where you can review all of the Cosmogony stories you’ve seen
  • Quests to strengthen Regalia Type-D
  • New trophies/achievements

If you already own Final Fantasy XV, you’ll be able to upgrade to the Royal Edition by buying the Royal Pack. The price for upgrading was initially reported as $19.99, but Square Enix says that was a mistake and the price hasn’t been announced yet.

I’m not sure how I feel about this. I generally don’t mind DLC, “definitive editions,” and similar things, but since Final Fantasy XV felt rushed and/or incomplete at launch, it’s a little frustrating. I’m happy that they’re slowly fixing Final Fantasy XV, but it also makes me wish it had some of this stuff at the start.

Plus they’ve given no indication that the new DLC content will be included in this. That might be part of a second Season Pass.

Still, I have to admit… part of me is still hopeful that Final Fantasy XV will eventually become the game I hoped it would be when I started it.

How do you feel about the Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition? Are you planning to get this additional content?

(On a side note, one of the casualties of the site disaster was the “related posts” section at the bottom. It was nice while it lasted…)

During the latest Active Time Report about Final Fantasy XV, Square Enix announced its plans to continue FFXV support through 2018, starting with a new episode about Ardyn.

The way Ardyn’s backstory was handled was a big disappointment to me, so I’m excited that they’re taking steps to correct that.

They previously mentioned the possibility of a whole Ardyn game, but an Episode Ardyn is fine with me.

According to Tabata, they plan to release at least three “Episode” DLCs in 2018, and this new content won’t be released until it’s properly sufficient. Tabata hopes the new DLC will even get the interest of fans who lost interest after finishing the game.

He’s also aware that fans want to see an Episode Luna.

I’m happy that we’ll finally get more details about Ardyn, but I’m especially happy about the “properly sufficient” comment. Final Fantasy XV’s biggest problem was that it lacked important details and skipped over moments that should have been shown on-screen, so maybe the DLC will finally fill in those gaps.

In the meantime, Episode Ignis is due out on December 13, and it will include an alternate route you unlock once you clear the story.

And that’s not all! A December update will let you switch characters in FFXV, so you can finally play as Gladio, Ignis, or Prompto in the main story.

By the time they’re finished adding content and updating Final Fantasy XV, maybe it will be the way many of us envisioned it. What do you think of the latest news, and are you looking forward to Episode Ardyn?
