Operation Backlog Completion 2025

Final Fantasy XV has three DLC episodes out (along with a multiplayer expansion), more DLC on the way, free updates with gameplay changes and additional lore, and… now a Royal Edition on the way.

The Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition, as well as the PC version, will be out on March 6. In addition to the main game, it includes:

  • The three DLC episodes and the multiplayer expansion
  • An expanded explorable map for the Insomnia City Ruins, with side quests and special enemies
  • A controllable Royal Vessel boat that lets you explore between Cape Caem and Altissia
  • A powerful “Armiger Unleashed” option once you collect all the royal arms
  • A first-person camera mode
  • Weapons, car skins, and items
  • New myths and legends about the world, along with an Archive where you can review all of the Cosmogony stories you’ve seen
  • Quests to strengthen Regalia Type-D
  • New trophies/achievements

If you already own Final Fantasy XV, you’ll be able to upgrade to the Royal Edition by buying the Royal Pack. The price for upgrading was initially reported as $19.99, but Square Enix says that was a mistake and the price hasn’t been announced yet.

I’m not sure how I feel about this. I generally don’t mind DLC, “definitive editions,” and similar things, but since Final Fantasy XV felt rushed and/or incomplete at launch, it’s a little frustrating. I’m happy that they’re slowly fixing Final Fantasy XV, but it also makes me wish it had some of this stuff at the start.

Plus they’ve given no indication that the new DLC content will be included in this. That might be part of a second Season Pass.

Still, I have to admit… part of me is still hopeful that Final Fantasy XV will eventually become the game I hoped it would be when I started it.

How do you feel about the Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition? Are you planning to get this additional content?

(On a side note, one of the casualties of the site disaster was the “related posts” section at the bottom. It was nice while it lasted…)

  1. Honestly? I think it’s disgusting. It’s times like this that make me wonder how on Earth they continue to do so well for themselves. How can a game that was in development for such an absurd amount of time be considered acceptable when it’s STILL not complete on release? The whole DLC thing has made developers so damn lazy. They are basically selling people things that should have been on the disc to begin with. The fact that they now try to sell some of the content as an expansion (screwing people who got the season pass), is just dirty.

That’s just before we talk about the PC version that most people won’t have the ‘recommended’ specs for. Hell, I for one don’t even have the required specs. No way I can free up 155GB and my graphics card doesn’t make it either. The space it requires is just a joke. Apparently it’s mostly for the 4k textures. Why would you force that when most people don’t have a 4k monitor? It’s just bad business practices.

I never brought the original version and I just got a PS4 so i’t’s really perfect for me in theory, but I don’t feel good about supporting such things (if I should decide to buy it still).

    • Final Fantasy XV seems like its development was kind of a disaster. Even before all of this started happening, just from playing the main game, I felt like they eventually decided to rush to meet their release date and had to cut stuff out.

I’m usually pretty much okay with DLC, but my problem with FFXV is that it was obvious that certain things in the game went unanswered because they were being saved for the DLC. Showing one of the villains in one scene and then never again until the DLC? There’s something wrong with that.

But on the other hand, I’m glad they’re at least trying to repair it. The price of the upgrade will influence how I feel about it. If we’re in the second “season” for DLC, maybe it’s not so bad. It’s just hard to look at all this and not say “You should have released it like this in the first place!” At least they did have some free updates that added additional lore and stuff.

Yeah, the PC requirements are insane.

      • That is just terrible, who the heck just teases a villain so their dinosaur of a game can have DLC? I hate how not all developers are held to the same standards. If EA or Capcom did this there would be outrage. Not to mention no other company is so horribly disorganized they can take so long making games in this day and age. With the Royal Edition it feels like it might be the end of the DLC? But I guess time will tell. If not then I will wait for the Royal Edition+ and get it second hand.
