Another Nintendo Direct, and Nintendo continues to steal my heart and money, because yesterday’s Nintendo Direct was fantastic!

You can catch the whole thing here, but I’ll go through the highlights that stood out to me.

First, I was surprised by the amount of 3DS support. I figured we had a few already-announced games on their way (Detective Pikachu, The Alliance Alive, Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux, etc.) and that would be it for any major announcements.

But there were new 3DS announcements, including remakes of Bowser’s Inside Story and Luigi’s Mansion!

Bowser’s Inside Story is my favorite game in the Mario & Luigi series, so I’m thrilled that it’s being remade. I’m curious to see if the new side story, Bowser Jr.’s Journey, will be similar to the Bowser’s Minions addition to the Superstar Saga remake, or if it will be different.

As for Luigi’s Mansion, my old GameCube copy is just fine… but I hope this remake does well and convinces them to create a Luigi’s Mansion 3 in the style of the original, not Dark Moon. For me, the original Luigi’s Mansion is far superior to its sequel.

I also want Detective Pikachu. No way am I missing that game.

Moving on to the Switch games, I’m still on board with Octopath Traveler after enjoying the demo, although I still want to know how the overall story will work.

I’m still curious about No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again, especially now that I’ve tried games by Suda51 (more on that next week).

And while I still haven’t played Dark Souls, I love the Solaire amiibo. Praise the sun! Did they really make an amiibo just for a meme?

Mario Tennis Aces looks cool, but I’m not much for sports games, but I was excited to see the announcements of Undertale and the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy! I don’t need a third copy of Undertale, but I do need to pick up a copy of Crash. I’ve never played the first two games.

Splatoon 2’s story expansion looks kind of cool, and the Smash reveal was great even though I don’t play Smash. (Heresy!) I’m in the camp that thinks it’s a new Super Smash Bros. game for Switch, not a port.

What did you think of yesterday’s Nintendo Direct? What were your favorite announcements?

We’ve got another Nintendo Direct to look forward to this evening at 3 PM PT / 6 PM ET.

Its main focuses will be ARMS and Splatoon 2, but since it says it will include information about the Nintendo 3DS as well as the Nintendo Switch, it’s safe to guess those two games won’t be the only things shown.

So let’s make a few predictions!

Likely

Predictions I think have a fairly good chance of coming true:

Yooka-Laylee Switch Release Date

Yooka-Laylee came out yesterday for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One, but the Switch version’s release date is still unknown. A Nintendo Direct so soon after the game’s launch sounds like the perfect time to announce when this 3D platformer will be available on the Switch.

Pikmin 3DS game

Remember the side-scrolling Pikmin spin-off they announced for the 3DS and then said nothing more about? It’s supposedly still due out this year, so maybe this is the 3DS news on its way.

Less Likely

Predictions I think could come true, but probably won’t.

Virtual Console details

Nintendo hasn’t said much about how the Virtual Console will work on the Switch, but maybe they’ll give details today. It would certainly count as “information.”

Ever Oasis news

Ever Oasis looked very cute and interesting when it was announced at E3, but we’ve barely heard anything since then. How about a new Ever Oasis trailer?

Unlikely

Predictions I’d love to come true, but I won’t hold my breath for.

Bayonetta 1 & 2 for the Switch

Yesterday, Bayonetta was announced for the PC, but many fans are hoping to see the first and second game brought to the Nintendo Switch. If it happens, it’s probably the sort of announcement they’d save for E3, but who knows?

Mother 3 localization

I’m still convinced this will happen eventually, and since they sprung EarthBound Beginnings on people during a tournament, why not casually drop the third game during a Nintendo Direct like this? Best of all, bring it with the Virtual Console news I mentioned above.

The Great Ace Attorney

We’ve waited patiently in the hopes that Dai Gyakuten Saiban, or The Great Ace Attorney, will be localized. There will be a live stream about the sequel next week. This week there’s a Nintendo Direct with unspecified 3DS news. COINCIDENCE?

…Yes, probably.

But we still can dream!

What are your predictions, likely or not, for today’s Nintendo Direct?

It’s been some time now since Nintendo unveiled the Nintendo Switch, and now we know when we’ll learn more.

A special Nintendo Switch presentation is planned for January 12 at 8 PM PT / 11 PM ET.

The presentation will be streamed at the official site (and probably sites like Youtube, as well, like with Nintendo Directs).

From what Nintendo has said previously, this will be the event where we learn the Nintendo Switch’s price, launch date, and current lineup of games.

So far, we only know a handful of confirmed Switch titles, but of course, we all have hopes based on the Switch reveal (I’m still hoping for a Mario game in the style of 64/Sunshine).

Meanwhile, Yooka-Laylee is the latest game to drop its promised Wii U version, although it sounds as though they ran into a technical difficulties with the Wii U that they can’t overcome. Instead, they’ll try to bring Yooka-Laylee to the Switch.

Are you excited for the Nintendo Switch? What announcements are you most hoping for from the January 12 presentation?
