Operation Backlog Completion 2025
Nov 012024

It’s that time of year again!

Celebrating All Things Spooky 2024 has come to an end, with a close race to the finish for this year’s contest. The winners are in the process of being notified, and that means it’s now time to talk about NaNoWriMo.

Or, in this case, what I’m calling Personal WriMo.

I’ve decided not to use the actual NaNoWriMo site this year, so instead I’ve set up a personal word count tracker right here on my site. You’ll be able to see my progress throughout the month by checking this post.

(I may put it in the header if I can get it to play nice with my Operation Backlog Completion progress bar. We shall see.)

Personal WriMo 2024
Phase:Month
100%

This year, I’ve decided to work on short stories throughout the month, so I technically won’t be writing a novel. However, the overall goal is still the same – 50,000 words to be written in the month of November. I’m especially hoping to get some new pulp fiction stories written.

Speaking of my stories, I mentioned at the start of October that I hoped to bring my Lovecraftian horror novella The Book at Dernier to additional retailers, and I’m happy to say I got that done. You can now buy the ebook copy at multiple places, including Barnes & Noble and Smashwords.

All right, that’s all I have to say about my writing for now… and don’t worry, we will definitely be talking about the exciting Xenoblade Chronicles X news on Monday!

Are you participating in NaNoWriMo or an equivalent event this month?

Can you believe another October is upon us again?

As we head into fall, it’s time to kick off Halloween season with a month-long celebration of spookiness! That includes not only horror, but anything else that feels suitable for the season.

During this celebration, we’ll have sales, contests, and more, so stick around.

It’s time for Celebrating All Things Spooky 2024 to begin!

Reviews and Content

Our romance and mystery events this year had to be shortened, but my plan is to stick with regular reviews for Celebrating All Things Spooky – with one day a week reserved for other topics in case something crazy happens (I mean, Capcom could still announce a new Ace Attorney game).

There’s a whole bunch of horror, spooky, and otherwise Halloween-adjacent games I’m looking forward to playing and discussing this October, and I’m hoping for a mix of both scary games and lighter ones.

Sales and Promo

A special promotion is coming soon! From October 4 – October 10, ebook copies of my zombie comedy novella The Zombie Mishap will be on sale for $0.99 at Amazon. Join the misadventures of two unlucky scientists who accidentally create a zombie and set out to stop it before anyone finds out!

I don’t know yet if there will be sales on The Book at Dernier and It Came Back this year or not. However, I’m hoping to get at least Dernier up at other retailers as well, so stay tuned.

And don’t forget that I also worked on the horror visual novel Not It, available now on Steam as Not It: Spookiest Edition!

Contest and Prizes

Now let’s get into the contest details. For the month of October, you can earn points simply by leaving comments or replies on any Celebrating All Things Spooky post. At the end of the month, the top three participants with the most points will each get to choose a prize!

October is here, and that means it’s time to celebrate ghosts, ghouls, and every manner of spooky thing with a new Celebrating All Things Spooky month!

So let’s get into the sales, the contest, and what you can expect to see this year.

Sales

I’ve got a special promotion to kick off the spooky season. From now until Friday, you can get a free ebook copy of The Zombie Mishap, my comedy novella about two scientists who accidentally create a zombie and set out to stop it before anyone finds out. Since it’s a comedy, it’s on the lighter side of things, so consider checking it out even if horror isn’t usually your thing!

Meanwhile, ebook copies of The Book at Dernier and It Came Back will be on sale for $0.99 each for the rest of October. These two are both horror novellas, with The Book at Dernier being cosmic horror about a scholar investigating a strange incident in a small town and It Came Back dealing with the supernatural curse of a demon stalking its victims in dreams.

Remember, the free promotion of The Zombie Mishap will last through this Friday, October 7, while The Book at Dernier and It Came Back will be on sale through October 31.

Contest

Between now and Halloween, you also have a chance to win a prize at the end of the month just by leaving comments and interacting! The contest rules are slightly different than they were last year, so be sure to read them carefully.

Content

I’ve got an exciting lineup of spooky game reviews planned, so here’s hoping you learn about some new horror games you might have overlooked.

Like in our mystery game celebration earlier this year, I’ll leave open the possibility of having a non-themed post once a week in case some especially exciting news comes out in October (like if Capcom wanted to announce a new Ace Attorney game, just saying).

Now it’s time to begin our month-long celebration of games and other media that are spooky, creepy, or otherwise fitting for October! Do you plan to play any special games for Halloween this October?
