If you, like me, have been won over by the gameplay and characters shown from World of Final Fantasy, you might be interested in one of the special editions recently announced.

World-of-Final-Fantasy-Collectors-Edition

First up, the World of Final Fantasy Collector’s Edition, available only for the PlayStation 4 version of the game, includes:

  • World of Final Fantasy
  • A pop-up book that doubles as the box for all the CE content
  • An 80-page hardcover art book
  • A 20-song soundtrack CD
  • Mini figurines of chibi Cloud, Lightning, and Squall
  • Digital content: a Sephiroth summon, Red Bonnetberry mirage, White Chocobo mirage, Glow Moogle mirage, and a Japanese voice-over option

The Collector’s Edition costs $120 and is exclusive to the Square Enix Online Store.

If you aren’t interested in the Collector’s Edition, the Limited Edition might interest you more.

World-of-Final-Fantasy-Limited-Edition

The World of Final Fantasy Limited Edition, also available only for the PS4 version*, includes:

  • World of Final Fantasy (in special packaging)
  • A 24-page art book
  • The digital content (a Sephiroth summon, Red Bonnetberry mirage, White Chocobo mirage, Glow Moogle mirage, and a Japanese voice-over option)

It costs $60 and will be sold at retailers, including Amazon.

*Note: Some announcements said the LE would be available for the Vita as well, but this version has yet to surface at retailers, even Square Enix’s own store.

Finally, if you miss out on the Limited Edition or want the PS Vita version, there is a Day One Edition.

World-of-Final-Fantasy-Day-1-Edition

The World of Final Fantasy Day One Edition is simple. It includes:

  • World of Final Fantasy
  • The digital content (a Sephiroth summon, Red Bonnetberry mirage, White Chocobo mirage, Glow Moogle mirage, and a Japanese voice-over option)

All copies should be the Day One Edition until they run out, so right now it’s available everywhere and costs $60 on PS4 and $40 on Vita.

Why is Japanese audio included as DLC? Why does the Limited Edition cost the same as the Day One Edition? No idea. But if you’re interested in World of Final Fantasy, you now have a variety of options.

Here’s a new trailer to help you decide.

What do you think of World of Final Fantasy and its special editions? Chibi characters and cuteness aside, will it truly be an epic Final Fantasy adventure? Share your thoughts in the comments.

World-of-Final-FantasyAfter initial confusion about just what this game is, World of Final Fantasy looks increasingly like a fun and exciting addition to the Final Fantasy series, especially for fans of turn-based combat.

Our look at the villains was interesting, and gameplay footage at E3 helped show how this is more than just a cute crossover using characters from various Final Fantasy games.

(Although it definitely looks adorable.)

It’s also supposed to have 100 hours worth of story content.

Now, PlayStation Access has posted a 9-minute video showing more World of Final Fantasy gameplay and explaining how it works.

Let’s take a look.

As the video shows, World of Final Fantasy lets you capture (or “imprism”) monsters in a Pokémon-esque system. Different monsters have different criteria for how to capture them.

These monsters can then be “stacked” on top of the playable characters to give you certain abilities in battle. New monster abilities are unlocked through a system similar to Final Fantasy X’s Sphere Grid. Enemies can also stack, and you can topple them.

Characters from Final Fantasy games can be summoned in battle for special attacks. (And for pure Final Fantasy fanservice, of course. Even Shelke is in this game, so chances are good you’ll see your favorites.)

You can fast-forward through scenes, including lengthy summons. World of Final Fantasy will also have some sort of multiplayer aspect.

World of Final Fantasy looks like it’ll be a really fun game, and the video mentions its “massive story,” which is always nice to hear. It’s due out on October 25 for the PlayStation 4 and Vita, and I can’t wait to play it.

What do you think of World of Final Fantasy?

World-of-Final-Fantasy-BrendiresWhile Final Fantasy XV gets most of the attention, World of Final Fantasy is the other upcoming Final Fantasy game, a turn-based RPG for the PlayStation 4 and Vita.

A year ago, after it was shown at Sony’s E3 2015 show, I wasn’t sure what it was about.

Was it a story-driven RPG? A cute little game mainly concerned with being cute?

Would it be an epic turn-based RPG, or another sign Square Enix thinks “epic” and “turn-based” are contradictory?

I’m still not entirely sure, although the trailer shown at TGS 2015 helped.

In an interview with Kotaku, the director said it would have the “volume of a story” found in Final Fantasy VI, VII, and VIII. That’s great, but I can’t help but be a little skeptical when I see this cute world filled with chibi versions of past Final Fantasy characters…

Nevertheless, Square Enix has released new details and screenshots, so let’s talk about one of our favorite things: the villains!

Dark Knight Brendires

The guy pictured up above is Dark Knight Brendires. “Dark Knight” is probably his class, since he’s the king in charge of the Bahamut Army. In traditional villain fashion, he plans to take over the world.

He has a cool design, so I’m interested in learning more about him despite his vague motivations.

Seguriwades

World-of-Final-Fantasy-SeguriwadesSeguriwades is the Bahamut Army’s staff officer, responsible for developing their strategies.

He and Brendires will create a “vortex of chaos” in the world, which is here called Grymoire although it’s previously been written as Grimoire.

I’d like to get a better look at him. I also hope they have some more allies… maybe a mad scientist?

Ahem.

Other Characters

The new information also revealed a mysterious Masked Woman who seems helpful but might not be, the Bahamut Soldier enemies, chibi Vivi from Final Fantasy IX, new saver summons (used by Yuna, Cloud, the Warrior of Light, and Lightning), and three Mirages (Odin, Undead Princess, and Descal).

I’m still not entirely sure what World of Final Fantasy is.

But hey, Brendires and Seguriwades look interesting, so maybe this really will be a return to both Final Fantasy’s gameplay and storytelling of old.
