Operation Backlog Completion 2026

About a year ago, I backed a Kickstarter campaign for a dark fantasy otome game called Volontés.

I don’t back crowd-funding campaigns quite as often as I did for a while there, but every now and then there’s still one that catches my eye enough for me to back it. This was one of those games.

Unfortunately, the campaign failed, so although the developers were still able to refocus their efforts and release the game in Japan, English localization wasn’t possible.

Now it’s out in Japan, and there’s a new Kickstarter campaign for its localization. It’s a Switch game, although there is a potential Steam port if the campaign makes its stretch goal.

Volontés is about a young woman whose village is attacked and destroyed, but she’s rescued by a mysterious figure who proclaims her to be the Moon Witch. It sounds like an intriguing story, and the art is also beautiful.

I haven’t seen too many reviews of it since it’s only out in Japan, but what I have seen is positive. I really like the looks of it, and I hope it can get localized. At the time that I’m writing this post, the campaign is almost at 80% of its funding goal, with 6 days left to go. I’ve got my fingers crossed.

Update: It looks like they got an extension, so there’s now an additional week to reach the goal!

So if a dark fantasy otome game sounds interesting to you, head over to the Volontés Kickstarter page and take a look!

There wasn’t a Capcom Showcase this June, but a Capcom Spotlight live stream has been announced for next week.

It will take place on June 26 at 3 PM PT / 6 PM ET and last approximately 40 minutes, and it will feature information on Monster Hunter Wilds, Resident Evil Requiem, Pragmata, and Street Fighter 6.

So of course, I’ll be hoping against hope for Ace Attorney news.

Like I mentioned last time, Capcom Spotlight streams usually focused on already-announced titles, while the bigger ones that have new announcements are called Capcom Showcases. It was at a Capcom Showcase that the Apollo Justice Trilogy was announced, for example.

But it isn’t as if there are never new announcements during a Capcom Spotlight. That last one included the announcement of the Onimusha 2 remaster, and since Ace Attorney is a more niche series, I could see it being slipped in amongst news about their bigger games.

(Besides, I’m still suspicious of the mysterious van Zieks captions that we never got any explanation for.)

I’m interested in Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata, so I’ll be watching regardless, but I’ll have my fingers crossed for Ace Attorney news at the same time.

Do you think the Capcom Spotlight will have any new announcements?

The Donkey Kong Bananza Direct was this morning, and I went into it hoping to see a bit more variety than what was shown off during the original trailer and Treehouse streams.

And… I got my wish!

The new trailer not only officially revealed Pauline (whose involvement was leaked earlier), but it also showed more varied environments, more platforming and gameplay mechanics beyond smashing things, Bananza transformations with different abilities, and more.

It looks so fun. Any doubts I had about it are gone. It looks like exactly the sort of 3D platformer I’ll love.

There’s also outfits and customization options for both DK and Pauline, and spots called Getaways where you can rest and listen to music. On top of that, there’s a whole separate mode called “DK Artist” where you can use the Switch 2’s mouse controls to sculpt and paint.

I was already interested in Donkey Kong Bananza, but now I’m completely sold. Looks like I’ll be getting a Switch 2.

Well, with how big my backlog has gotten, I think I’ll still wait until there are a couple more exclusives I’m dying for. I have plenty to keep me occupied in the meantime. All the same, I can’t wait to play Donkey Kong Bananza.

What are you thoughts on this more extensive look at the new Donkey Kong game?
