A week ago we talked about the Final Fantasy VII Remake demo, but that isn’t the only one of April’s big-name releases giving fans an early taste of the gameplay.

The Trials of Mana remake, which is due out on April 24, has a demo available now from Steam, PSN, and the eShop.

I have the Switch version of the demo downloading even as I write this. I’ve only played one Mana game, Sword of Mana on the GBA, although I did get the recent collection of the original trilogy. The Trials of Mana remake looks pretty good, so I’m excited to give the demo a try and see how it feels.

Meanwhile, Resident Evil 3 is also getting a demo tonight/tomorrow. It looks like the PSN and Xbox release of the demo will be earlier than the PC version, and it’s already available in New Zealand and Australia.

Unlike the Resident Evil 2 remake demo, it doesn’t appear this one is limited in any way. I’m even more excited to try this demo once it’s available. RE2make got me hyped for this remake, but I’m still a little nervous that Resident Evil 3’s greater focus on action might come on too strong. Here’s hoping the demo feels like a survival horror game. I’m hoping for some locked doors and puzzles.

(Now that I think about it, it’s interesting that April has 3 high-profile remakes coming out, all with demos.)

Are you planning to play either the Trials of Mana demo or the Resident Evil 3 remake demo (or both)? Have you already played them? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Hot on the heels of the Silent Hill rumors we discussed on Monday, we now have new Resident Evil rumors to take a look at.

These rumors are about Resident Evil 8 specifically and come from the site Biohazard Declassified.

They say they received an email stating that the next game (which will not be called Resident Evil 8 but will have a “clever title”) will be another first-person game with Ethan from 7 as a playable character, and Chris Redfield will be involved. Regular zombies will return, along with new “wolf-like creatures” and a shadowy enemy that follows the player and disappears when shot.

According to the rumor, the setting is a snowy environment and it starts in a village leading to a castle.

Despite a lot of people discussing “werewolves” in regards to this, it doesn’t look like that was specified, just that the enemies are wolf-like. Details such as the shadowy stalker enemy and the castle have also led to fans speculating that they might use elements from the early “Hook Man” build of Resident Evil 4, which was rumored in the past as well.

Now, this rumor comes from a random anonymous email, which doesn’t lend it a lot of credibility. Eurogamer backed up the report that it will be first-person, but not the rest. Meanwhile, AestheticGamer (the leaker we discussed in regards to the Silent Hill rumors) says it’s not the final Resident Evil 8 but a scrapped version.

And in (possibly) unrelated news, Capcom is recruiting Resident Evil Ambassadors for another playtest starting at the end of February and running through March. The email doesn’t specify which title this playtest is for, so it’s possible they’re testing an unannounced Resident Evil game.

So what do you think? Are the Resident Evil 8 rumors true? Is the playtest for an unannounced game? Share your thoughts in the comments… and I’ll do my best to play Resident Evil 7 before 8 comes out!

Remember earlier this year when Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo said he was confident NIS America would localize the Crossbell arc if they were brought to newer consoles?

Well, buckle up, because Falcom has now revealed Zero no Kiseki Kai and Ao no Kiseki Kai, upgraded remasters of Zero and Ao for the PlayStation 4.

They will be out in Japan in spring 2020.

No localization news has been announced at this point, but this feels like our best chance to finally get official translations of these two unlocalized Trails games. NISA will be at PAX South on January 17 with new announcements, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves just yet.

Falcom also announced Hajimari no Kiseki, or Trails of the Beginning for summer 2020 in Japan. Although I haven’t read too much about it since I’m avoiding spoilers for the series, it sounds like this will be a bridge to the next Trails arc.

(Maybe this is the spark I need to finally get back to Trails in the Sky SC!)

This is pretty exciting for Trails fans, but before I wrap up this blog post, I want to shift gears entirely and talk about Resident Evil for a minute. RE3make has been announced, Resistance is part of it as its multiplayer component, and… Capcom might have another Resident Evil game in development?

Resident Evil Ambassadors got a new email today, mainly detailing a new ranking feature coming to the program. However, the email also included an unexpected detail:

Also, as limited offers to Ambassadors, we have invitations to a play test session of our unannounced title*, and priority seats at our game show booth**.”

Either that’s poor wording and it’s meant to indicate that Ambassadors will be invited to play tests of unannounced titles in the future, or it’s quiet confirmation that they have an as-yet-unannounced game in development. The footnote only clarifies that you need to actually sign up for the play test to be eligible for selection.

Some people think it might not be a Resident Evil title at all, but this time my bet’s on Resident Evil 8.

So, when do you think we’ll hear more about Trails localizations? What do you think the Resident Evil email is referencing? Share your thoughts in the comments!
