It’s been a while since we last heard about Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis, the upcoming mobile game intended to cover the entire Final Fantasy VII Compilation.

It was supposed to receive a beta test this year, but that never happened.

Well, a new trailer has finally comes out, and it turns out the Ever Crisis closed beta test has been delayed to summer 2023. That’s quite a delay, especially for just the beta.

The new trailer shows a glimpse at how you’ll select episodes to play through, combat from different points in the timeline, and a few other scenes, including a look at the Chocobo Farm, where it seems you’ll be able to trade medals for a Chocobo.

(Seeing the “Draws” menu option reminds me that this is unfortunately a gacha game, but I’m still hoping it won’t be too intrusive.)

We also get another look at short-haired, younger Sephiroth at the end of the trailer.

A few scenes show characters fighting in scenes where they don’t belong, but previous interviews had implied that’s a thing for replaying chapters, so I’m not too worried about it. I have mixed feelings about Ever Crisis since I’m not a fan of gacha games, but I’m still interested in seeing what it will be like.

What do you think of Ever Crisis’s latest trailer?

Yesterday, Bandai Namco filed a trademark in Japan for “Beyond the Dawn.”

It didn’t particularly stand out to me. A title like that could be for anything.

Today, however, they followed it with a European trademark for “Tales of Arise Beyond the Dawn.” Now it’s much more interesting to me.

So, what could Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn be?

Back in April, the developers said there were no plans for a Tales of Arise sequel or story DLC, as they wanted it to stand on its own without the need to continue the story. Some fans are now wondering if they’ve changed their mind and decided to make an expansion or DLC after all.

Another possibility is an anime adaptation. A handful of Tales games have gotten anime adaptations, such as Tales of Zestiria the X.

The worst-case scenario is that it’s a mobile game. That’s not even just because I’m not a big mobile gamer; the last couple of Tales mobile games have been shut down so quickly, I’d have no faith in a new one to last. Luminaria didn’t even make a full year.

If Beyond the Dawn is game-related, we could hear something at the Game Awards tomorrow. Of course, trademarks sometimes go a long time without any news coming of them. I’m still waiting for something to come from Capcom’s mysterious Apollo Justice trademark. Yes, I’ll be hoping for Ace Attorney news tomorrow, too. Let me dream.

What do you think Tales of Arise: Beyond the Dawn will be?

Nintendo released a new story trailer for Fire Emblem Engage today.

The announcement trailer left me a bit confused because of the crossover element, although admittedly I was a bit distracted by the other games announced that day.

This new trailer makes it clearer that there are 12 rings, which summon Emblems, the characters from past Fire Emblem games. The main character is gathering these rings to fight the threat facing the world.

If that means the crossover is limited to 12 characters, I think that will work better for a game like this. There are few enough of them to act as supporting characters without dominating the story. It seems like Emblems can also be corrupted, turning them into evil versions of themselves.

The main character also has amnesia, which might be a bit overused, but I’m curious about where it will go since it seems to hint at something bad.

The designs are a bit odd, but they’re growing on me.

Until now, I’d felt we barely knew anything about Fire Emblem Engage even though it’s coming out in a couple of months. Now I feel I have a much better understanding of what it is. Numerous gameplay clips have also been tweeted by the Japanese Fire Emblem Twitter account.

I’d still like to know more about the hub area and how it will compare to the monastery in Three Houses, but I’m getting interested in Fire Emblem Engage. Speaking of which, I should return to my Three Houses playthrough one of these days…

Fire Emblem Engage is due out on January 20. What are your thoughts on it so far?
