Operation Backlog Completion 2026
Dec 082025

In this year’s annual investor report from Capcom, there’s one particular section that got my attention.

After discussing their current core IPs, Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter, they then went on to name Mega Man, Devil May Cry, and Ace Attorney as three they’d like to turn into core IPs.

They hope to do this “through new releases, remakes, and ports of titles in these series to new hardware.”

Well, as far as Ace Attorney is concerned, we’ve already got all the games on new hardware (except for the crossover with Professor Layton). If they really want to grow the IP, a new game is the option from that list we need the most!

I’ve been optimistic for a while now that a new Ace Attorney announcement is coming soon. This only increases my hopes.

As for the other two series listed, Mega Man 11 came out in 2018, only in a slightly better position than Ace Attorney as far as new releases go, and even though in my mind Devil May Cry 5 came out recently, it was in 2019. Hey, maybe all three will get a new announcement soon!

What do you think about Capcom’s expressed desire to turn these three series into core IPs?

  1. Ahhh I’d love to see the Layton crossover come back, especially with a new Layton game itself coming out soon! That can also give a good framework for how things like the puzzles could be done outside of the DS, but I know that crossover games are harder to re-release due to all the extra rights involved and such.

I am hopeful for more Ace Attorney for a long time to come!

  2. We want Breath of Fire!

  3. Looks like Mega Man is getting shine-time.
