Today’s post isn’t quite a review, because I already reviewed The Darkside Detective for Nintendo Chit Chat.

But in keeping with the season, I’d like to celebrate this humorous point-and-click adventure game. It follows a detective who investigates supernatural cases, and it won me over with its humor.

Yes, while it’s definitely spooky, it’s not scary. If you prefer the more lighthearted side of Halloween, check it out!

The Darkside Detective features 6 cases, plus 3 bonus cases that were added for free after the game’s launch. Each is a mini investigation into some sort of supernatural event, usually full of parodies, references, and wacky dialogue.

Right now, the developers are running a Kickstarter campaign for a sequel, which will be released on the PC/Mac/Linux and Nintendo Switch. The sequel will also have 6 cases.

They met their main Kickstarter goal, and now they’re aiming for their first stretch goal: an anthology case focused on other characters. There’s just under 48 hours left in the campaign.

Anyway, although we focus a lot on horror for Celebrating All Things Spooky, we do take some time for comedies that fit the theme, so I had to highlight The Darkside Detective. I enjoyed the original game and its bonus cases a lot, and I’m looking forward to the sequel.

Don’t forget to check out my full review!

Our Kickstarter campaign for Destiny Chronicles is still ongoing, and I recently wrote a tie-in story about one of the supporting characters.

Titled “Enchanter: Rhea’s Quest,” it is a short fantasy story.

Rhea, whom we introduced in this campaign, will appear in the game as a side character who can enchant your gear to give it special bonuses.

Before the events of the game, however, Rhea dreamed of becoming a combat mage. This story focuses on her backstory.

It’s just a short glimpse into the world of Destiny Chronicles, but I thought it was a nice touch to give this side character more of an introduction, as well as to show more of the story and world in general.

You can find it here, as a PDF file included in our latest update. I hope you enjoy it!

And if you enjoy “Enchanter: Rhea’s Quest” and also like JRPGs, please consider supporting Destiny Chronicles on Kickstarter and spreading the word.

A few weeks ago, I showed you the updated combat for Destiny Chronicles and promised that we’d be relaunching our Kickstarter campaign soon.

Now, Destiny Chronicles is back on Kickstarter!

It’s an action RPG inspired by JRPGs, and we plan to release it for the PC, PS4, and Switch. Development on the PC version will be first, followed by the PS4 version and then the Switch version.

This time we have a playable demo so you can check out the improved combat for yourself.

Destiny Chronicles follows Celeste, a knight-in-training whose initiation is ruined when a thief steals the ancient artifact she was sent to recover. Determined to prove herself, Celeste sets out on a journey to catch the thief and reclaim the artifact.

Along the way, she’ll meet a mercenary named Valana and a scholar named Ruby, who join her quest, along with several other characters.

It will be a character-driven game with a story told through visual novel style scenes, and we also plan to include optional character conversations (like the skits in Tales).

Here’s our new Kickstarter trailer:

The Kickstarter page has details on how the combat system will work, information about the world’s history and lore, some of our location concept art, a sample of the game’s soundtrack, and more!

So if you’re interested in Destiny Chronicles, head on over to our Kickstarter campaign to learn more about it, lend us your support, and share the link with your friends.

Feel free to ask me any questions, as well. While I’m mainly involved with the story, I should be able to find out other answers for you. Is there anything you’d like to know about Destiny Chronicles?
