Muv-Luv Alternative: Total Eclipse was announced for an English release earlier this year, although we were somewhat distracted by other localization news at the time, and it sounds like it’s on track!

The official Muv-Luv Twitter account announced late Wednesday night that the Total Eclipse translation is complete.

It is still on track for a release this winter, as originally announced.

(“Winter” could still mean early next year, but that’s fine.)

Total Eclipse is a spin-off set in the Muv-Luv Alternative universe. It follows a team in Alaska and is one of the most well-known Muv-Luv spin-offs.

I’m looking forward to Total Eclipse, so I hope we’ll get more news about the release date soon! In the meantime, I still need to finish reading Muv-Luv Unlimited: The Day After, which came out this year. Are you looking forward to Total Eclipse?

(Hey, I know it’s Black Friday, but we already discussed Black Friday deals last week when they started early, so check that out if you haven’t already!)

The last time we talked about the Muv-Luv spin-off Project Mikhail, it had been announced for PC and mobile devices, and we only had a few details.

Near the end of March, however, a special Muv-Luv update video revealed that the platforms for Project Mikhail had been changed to PC and Switch and that it had been delayed to August. It is possible it will come to additional platforms in the future.

(So if you’re seeing Project Mikhail news and saying, “Wait, I thought that was a mobile game,” that’s what the original plan was.)

Project Mikhail is a mech action game in which you’ll customize and pilot your own TSF. It features both a single player story mode and multiplayer features. A new video released this weekend gave us another look at Project Mikhail’s gameplay, including the ability to turn off damage indicators, fights against a greater number of BETA, TSF customization and upgrades through new parts you get as you play, and the combat itself, which is intended to involve both action-based skill and strategic thinking.

I’m not a big fan of mech games… in fact, have I even played any besides Metal Wolf Chaos? However, I am a big Muv-Luv fan, so I’ll probably pick up Project Mikhail for its story, if nothing else.

Not much information has been revealed about Project Mikhail’s story except that it will branch based on your choices, which is interesting. I’m looking forward to learning more about that and the story in general.

In the meantime, I still need to play through Muv-Luv Unlimited: The Day After, which came out in English this year. We’ve also got a Muv-Luv Alternative anime coming up (although I’m a little skeptical about how they’ll handle the Extra & Unlimited elements), another spin-off called Project Immortal, the conclusion of The Day After, and a full sequel called Muv-Luv Integrate, so the future is packed with Muv-Luv content!

(Haven’t heard anything about the Schwarzesmarken translation in a long time, though… here’s hoping it’s still happening!)

Are you interested in Project Mikhail? I’m a Muv-Luv fan interested in Project Mikhail because of the series, but are there any mech game fans interested in Muv-Luv because of Project Mikhail? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Although I played Muv-Luv photonmelodies last year and even reviewed it over at VN Game Den, I waited until now to discuss it as part of our romance celebration.

It’s the second of the two short story collections translated as part of the Muv-Luv localization Kickstarter, and this one includes three stories.

Before I go any further, Muv-Luv photonmelodies is fairly dependent on you being familiar with the Muv-Luv story already, so if you’re a newcomer to the series, I suggest you stop reading this review due to the implied spoilers. (Instead, go take a look at the current contest rules to see how you could win a copy of the first Muv-Luv just by leaving comments on any blog post here!)

All right, now let’s get back to the photonmelodies review.

Unlike Muv-Luv photonflowers, which we discussed in 2019, even the stories set in the Alternative universe are on the lighter end of things (with “Adoration” being almost completely comedy while “Resurrection” has a serious start and climax with a lot of goofiness in between).

Then there is “Altered Fable: A Shimmering Shard of Spacetime,” which is set after the ending of Alternative in the new timeline.

Imagine Muv-Luv Extra, but with everything being even crazier. There’s a fair share of people who dislike Muv-Luv Extra due to it being a romantic comedy, but I found it to be pretty entertaining when I played it (and if you’re reading a “Celebrating All Things Romantic” blog post, I’m guessing you aren’t here for doom and gloom today) and enjoyed this twist on it as well.

It’s filled with silly situations, callbacks to Unlimited and Alternative, a spy story that adds a touch of seriousness to a mostly lighthearted story, and yes, romance routes.

I really enjoyed Muv-Luv photonmelodies, and while the darker parts of the series might be the most famous and beloved, it felt good to see all of these characters back in happy times for an extended story. It’s all good, silly fun, the sort of story that just makes you happy as you read it.

So if you’re wondering if Muv-Luv photonmelodies is worth playing, I’d say that depends on what you’re looking for. If the answer is lighthearted comedy and romance similar to what was in Muv-Luv Extra, then the answer is yes!
