I didn’t get the Crossbell news I was hoping for yesterday (although NISA did name-drop it, which could be a good sign), so now I’ve set my sights on another hope: Ace Attorney 7 at TGS.
Earlier this year, I hoped Ace Attorney would be one of the “major” titles Capcom intends to release, and the upcoming Tokyo Game Show feels like the best time for a new Ace Attorney announcement.
Capcom hasn’t given any indication that Ace Attorney will be featured, but their TGS promotional icons include both Phoenix and Maya.
Either this means Ace Attorney will be at TGS, or Capcom at least views it as a popular enough series to feature here.
Ace Attorney is also part of Capcom’s TGS sale.
Both of these things feel like good signs, especially since it’s been four years since Spirit of Justice came out. Then again, considering what happened the last time Capcom had a big Ace Attorney TGS announcement, I half-expect its only presence (if any) at TGS 2020 will be to announce next-gen ports of the Trilogy.
But here’s hoping for good news! Maybe even an Investigations collection that could give us another chance at getting Investigations 2 in English!
Do you expect to se Ace Attorney at TGS?
You’re being uncharacteristically optimistic.
Here are the facts.
CAPCOM… very often… puts many of their games on sale. That’s true in North America. True in Europe. And it’s apparently true in Japan.
And you presumably read KoopaTV often, so you know how many filler articles I get to write where a CAPCOM game, usually Ace Attorney, goes on sale. It’s once a month, pretty much. Sometimes it’s their whole library.
Guess what series didn’t make an appearance at E3 2018 but still got on sale to celebrate it?

But hey, those icons and sales? Lots of other series have both but aren’t announced yet. Will we be seeing a new Mega Man game at Tokyo Game Show too? Mega Man 11 is on sale and has icons. How about whatever the heck Incarcerated Palm is? That has TWO icons. And there’s a new icon every day or so, so maybe we’ll see Amaterasu soon. New Okami hype?
We already know that CAPCOM considers Ace Attorney to be a big series of theirs, as opposed to, say, Ghost Trick. Ace Attorney is in the CAPCOM store’s key art, after all.
You already know that I think CAPCOM’s TGS schedule is packed with what they already announced. Notice how their schedule lacks any section for, say, surprise or new announcements.
Incarcerated Palm apparently got a Switch port last year and some sort of in-person VR experience this year, so maybe they WILL feature that. Maybe more Mega Man, too! You never know!
I just want to believe Ace Attorney 7 is coming soon…
Yeah, apparently it’s on Switch. (Japan-only!)
I guess I’ll know in a week and a few days. Obviously, I want you to be right.
At least our chances are better than Breath of Fire being revived.
…oof!!
Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter came out in 2002. In 2016, Capcom brought the series back at last with Breath of Fire 6… a mobile-only title that had a 1.7 star rating on the Google Play Store and did so badly they shut it down after about a year.
If anything, I fully expect…
Ace Attorney Trilogy will be available on the PS5 and Xbox Series X!\
Y’know… because that’s what we all want… more ways to buy the old games.
Though I am glad they keep making them available, it’s funny how often they make a big deal of it and also don’t seem to do the same for the new trilogy…
I think the fanbase as a whole needs to appreciate AA4–6 a lot more!
(Especially 6.)
I thought I was in the minority for not adoring 6.
This may be imaginary, but I’m thinking that there is a sort of “GenWunner” mentality among the Ace Attorney franchise that ignores everything after the Trilogy.
(Part of this is CAPCOM having the same attitude.)
So everything after AA3 is bad or doesn’t exist.
That’s possible. I know the games not from Takumi get criticized a lot for not being as good. I just remember everyone complaining about Dual Destinies being “too anime” and then when Spirit of Justice came out everyone was praising it for finally being a return to the trilogy’s glory, while I was one of the few who liked DD better.
There was a similar GameFAQs thread saying Monster Hunter Rise is too anime compared to World, and they got a lot of flak basically saying “that’s a good thing.”
Interesting.
(Personally, I don’t think “too anime” is a good criticism, since that can mean all sorts of things because of how varied anime is. People called Dual Destinies “too anime” for its humor and power-of-friendship scenes in case 3, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is “too anime” because it has sexualized characters, and who knows what the complaint is against Monster Hunter Rise.)
Yeah, it’s strange. :/
[…] Attorney 7 got its own article, and I’m still hopeful it will appear in one of Capcom’s scheduled “Additional […]
The answer ended up being “no.”
A resounding, heartbreaking “no.”
[…] You know how sometimes we talk about little things Capcom does and hope it might be a hint of upcoming Ace Attorney news? […]
