Operation Backlog Completion 2026

Remember, Ascendant Hearts, the romantic comedy visual novel funded through Kickstarter that I wrote the script for?

It is now out on Steam!

Ascendant Hearts tells the story of a young man named Hayato who is mysterious transported to a world where the tropes and mechanics you find in JRPGs (and MMORPGs) are how life actually works.

It’s a lighthearted parody filled with romantic hijinks and nods to the JRPG genre as Hayato joins Shiori, Aiko, and Chise in a quest to stop unexplained monster attacks.

Plus there’s a mad scientist! You know how much I love mad scientists.

Ascendant Hearts has multiple endings in addition to the possible romance outcomes, and it should take around 5 hours or so to complete, depending on how fast you read and whether or not you go through it multiple times. It normally costs $9.99, but it is on sale for $7.99 until January 25.

I had fun writing this visual novel, and I hope you’ll enjoy it as well. Feel free to ask me if you have any questions about it, and if it sounds interesting to you, check out Ascendant Hearts now on Steam!

When I published the reprint of The Book at Dernier back in September, I said the ebook version would be available shortly.

December isn’t as soon as I expected, but after overcoming some formatting difficulties, The Book at Dernier is now available for the Kindle!

Best of all, if you buy a print copy of The Book at Dernier from Amazon, you’ll be able to buy the ebook version for $0.99.

The beginning can also be read on Amazon as a free sample.

The Book at Dernier is a horror novella about a young man named Paul who visits a small town and uncovers a dark mystery about a string of horrifying murders, an enigmatic cult, and a book written in an indecipherable language.

If you’re familiar with my taste in horror, it’s probably not a surprise that this story has a Lovecraftian tone to it. Most of my horror is supernatural, but The Book at Dernier and It Came Back are the two that most reflect my Lovecraft inspirations.

Does that sound interesting to you? If so, head over to Amazon and take a look at the Kindle edition of The Book at Dernier.

As of yesterday, the contest winners for this year’s Celebrating All Things Spooky contest have been notified. Moombit came in first place with 18 points, followed by Ludwig Von Koopa in second place with 15 points.

Thank you to everyone who participated.

Moving on, Destiny Chronicles ultimately fell short of its Kickstarter goal. However, we intend to relaunch the campaign in the future, once we have additional content and more polished gameplay footage to show you.

If you want to be notified about future Destiny Chronicles updates, you can sign up for the mailing list at the official website.

Alternately, you can also support the new Patreon for Visualnoveler to get regular insights into the development process.

In the meantime, we have a new called Chaos Souls due out on November 7. Chaos Souls is a side-scrolling action game that puts you up against monsters and demons as you fight to save your kidnapped sister.

(Note: there is some fanservice, but no adult content.)

Funds from Chaos Souls will also go toward improving Destiny Chronicles.

Do you have any questions about Destiny Chronicles, Chaos Souls, or related topics? Let me know in the comments below. (And you can look forward to my Persona 5 review next week!)
