Merry Christmas!

I remember when the 25th anniversary of Spyro the Dragon arrived, and everyone hoped a new game would be announced.

And I remember a few months later when a blurred purple screen got people spreading Spyro speculation once again.

In fact, there have probably been more times since then, all without a new Spyro game ever being announced.

But it’s time to get our hopes up once again, because fans discovered that a former Toys for Bob employee lists on his LinkedIn profile that while he was employed by Activision between 2022 and 2024, he worked on both Call of Duty and Spyro.

That suggests that something related to Spyro was in the works during that time span.

This has sparked new hope that we’ll actually get a new Spyro game announced. Is that our Christmas present? We’ll just have to wait and see. Meanwhile, I never played the remake of the original Spyro trilogy, but if a new game is announced, maybe I’ll finally check it out.

(Not that I’ve played the new Crash Bandicoot game yet, either… oops.)

Anyway, do you think we’re finally getting a new Spyro game?

We last talked about Volontés back in June, as its localization Kickstarter campaign drew to a close.

After getting an extension, the campaign was successful, so the dark fantasy otome game will be localized next year.

I haven’t said much about it since then, but in the latest Kickstarter update, developer LocaGames announced that Volontés will received a physical edition.

The physical edition is due out in Japan on March 26, and the website says it will include the English translation.

I was hoping Kickstarter backers would have an option to upgrade to a physical copy, since I’d definitely do that. Unfortunately, they haven’t said anything yet to suggest that could happen. Still, I’m happy to see it getting a physical release at all.

Are you interested in Volontés?

A remake of Trails in the the Sky SC was pretty much confirmed already due to a teaser included at the end of the first game’s remake, but now it’s been officially announced.

Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter will launch for PS5, Switch, Switch 2, and PC in Fall 2026, once again as a worldwide release.

The trailer actually starts with a spoiler warning, so it’s nice to see them taking into account that it will spoil the first game for people who haven’t played it. In fact, so does the art revealed at the end with the release window, which is why I’ve used an awkward cropped version in this post.

It also spoils one character’s role in 2nd Chapter itself, so keep that in mind, too. I wouldn’t actually recommend that new fans watch the trailer.

(For those of you who already saw the teaser at the end of the remake, this is the same trailer, just with a title and release window at the end.)

Since the next new game in the series hasn’t been announced yet, some fans are concerned that it might be even farther off than we thought.

This comes from a shareholder presentation in which Falcom also revealed much-less-welcome news: that they are “cautiously” proceeding with the use of generative AI. They specifically referenced using it to brainstorm scenarios.

For me, that’s one of the last things I want to hear about a developer that makes story-driven games like Trails especially, so I hope they change their minds.

This is also right on the heels of the controversy over Larian Studios and Sandfall Interactive talking about their use of AI, so it’s quite a time out there right now.

Anyway, how do you feel about the Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter remake? A demo of the upcoming Trails Beyond the Horizon is also now available.
